Honestly, I would try a 2008 (or if you want to wait a month), a 2009 game. I was a bit intimidated by the ATG game when I first showed up (that was IIIv2), and I have to think now that there are 4000 players, new guys might feel overwhelmed. Also, I think the 200x games more closely mimic the board game than ATG.

Either way, I would spend some time reading the forums and asking veterans questions. There's an endless supply of knowledge and opinions amongst the community members.

You might want to post a sign-up sheet for a league of all newbies. That might make you more comfortable.

We have a league based on the 2008 set that would be right up your alley! We're keeping it to the "rookie" managers (under a certain amount of ratings points) who haven't won any titles. This will be the first try for one of the managers, and I believe this will be the second or third try for four of the other managers. Definitely a level playing field.

This will be a Live Draft league and the draft is scheduled for this Sat., Feb. 13th at 5:00pm ET. You can find the league under Private Leagues, the title is "Under 200 Pts - No Titles" and the password is "firsttitle".

It should be a lot of fun, you're welcome to join!

[quote:cfe9ef3344="ted_cogs"]How does the draft work? Do we draft our entire team in one day? And does every team have unique players?[/quote:cfe9ef3344]

Once you enter your team in that league, be around your computer just before 5 on Saturday and click on the link to enter the draft. From there, you'll get 90 seconds per pick and draft 25 unique players. The draft goes in a serpentine order (1st pick in 1st round gets last pick in 2nd round)

Ballpark is selected after the draft. I believe you actually have until the night before the season starts to choose it. Also, there is no salary cap in live draft leagues (one less thing to worry about). Feel free to ask questions as we go along.

Welcome aboard!

Yes, there is an "auto-draft" default if something happens during the draft. I would try to stick around if you can, though. It should take about 2 hours.

I'm sure there will be lots of trading going on in the pre-season and even during the season once people realize how certain players card fit in with their teams.

You can pick a stadium after the draft, and may change it as many times as you want up until the Sunday night before the league starts. This is different than auto-draft salary cap leagues, in which you declare your stadium at the same time as your auto-draft card, and may NOT change it later on.

Lastly, [b:ca2a6e9ac0]THERE IS NO SALARY CAP[/b:ca2a6e9ac0] in live draft leagues, so don't worry about $$ at all.
