Murray vrs Garvey

In my draft, I ended up with Eddie Murray for compensation on missing out on my target 1B.
I never used Murray before, but Steve Garvey, who I used in the past and like became available.
I came close to making the swap, but I noticed there doesn't seem to be much difference in the 2 players, other than Garvey having 1 bad season.
Ultimately I'm sticking with Murray, but I was curious as to which of those 2 players is generally preferred.
Will I be happy with Murray playing in Three Rivers? Should I have taken the chance and switch to Garvey or does it not matter?

easy call, its Murray. better consistency 5 good versus 4 good seasons. More power, better OBP. 1 vs. 2 D at 1b is not a big give up and MURRAY IS BETTER LIKED BY HIS TEAMMATES!

Murray has more HR power against righties and Garvey has more HR power vs lefties which clinches it for me. You'll face more righties. However Garvey's on base % is slightly higher at 3 Rivers unless you get that horrid 1971 year.

I like power but what do I know. I have been swept in 4 straight days.

Murray every time...Garvey has a lousy OBP for a .300 hitter. Besides putting up better power numbers consistently, Murray will get on base more often and makes the pitcher have to hold him with the *. Murray for me has always outproduced his real life #s

I would take Murray over Garvey as well, but Garvey can be very good.

In fact Garvey's a mystery to me. Some seasons, with one of his good cards, he'll putt along at around .800 OPS.

Another season, he'll give you a .900 OPS with the same card. He seems to do this more often than most players of his ability level. I'm not sure why this happens. Has anyone else noticed this?

Maybe it's because he rarely walks. He's capable of hitting .320 but he also might hit .270 with different rolls. And he's always going to give you 30 HR.

When he hits .320 with those 30 HR he's a heck of a player, even w/o walks, but when he hits .270 he's OK but not awesome. Murray can help you with BA, walks and HR, so if one aspect of his game is down, the other two might carry him along.

This is also one reason why the walks + HR + .250 BA guys can be problematic in this league. When they actually do hit .250 they're very productive, but if their BA slips to .210 (as it can do with bad rolls against the good pitching in the league), then they're not so hot.

It helps to be strong in all areas, as Murray for example is. But even he can have an off year with bad rolls. Nobody's superman (except maybe Stargell?)

Overwhelming support for Murray tell me I made the right choice.
I've always had good luck with Garvey, especially lately in the 80s game, getting his 78 and 79 seasons.

I'm confident I made the right decision and won't be disappointed with Murray.

Well, there you go...Garvey hit .325 and as a result was an excellent player.

Depending on what you've got lined up at DH, one could do worse than pick up Garvey and DH Murray. It's an expensive option, so if you like your DH setup and/or can't spare the cash, I wouldn't do it, but at the same time it could pay off very well.

I used Garvey at 3b and Hernandez at 1b. Garvey only committed 14 errors.

Garvey olny has lower OBP than Eddie, otherwise he is better. Garvey can be a RBI, get over 200 hits with lots of double and homers, yeah the one card sucks, but the rest or worth it I think
