No problem here, a bit of a head scracther as I didn't see Mike with a need at 3b but WTH.

Why not gamble on a 3rd baseman who has averaged 20 plus HR's in Petco now in a new park with a fresh start? Granted, Oakland is no prize either, but it's not Petco. At pick 25 in the FA draft, what possibly could be left other than maybe a quick 1 year fix at best? I think its a shrewd gamble. Besides, someone has to shake this league out of its winter doldrums.

Don't get me wrong, I got no problem with Kouzmanoff, ( I wanted him myself if you recall) just didn't see 3b as a huge need when he had:

Atkins
Blalock
Callaspo
Mora and espcially:

[b:2b020e9ad2]Sandoval[/b:2b020e9ad2]

already on the squad, that's all.
Further compilcated by the fact he's also got Morales and Miguel Cabrera to play 1b and DH, so I'm guessing Kouzmanoff is simply a defensive backup for Sandoval at this point.

The 25th pick in the draft just seems like a high price to pay for a defensive backup with upside at least to me...I think you'll be suprised at just how much talent is avaialble in the upcoming draft. It won't be like this in future drafts but becuase of the rule in place last year allowing us only to draft carded players, that goes away in all subsequent drafts, I think you'll find this is the deepest the spring draft will ever be.

If I was running his team I'd be more inclined to look at OF than 3b, he has much less depth there.

But he may have other deals in the works and will probaly wipe the floor with my squad so what do I know.

Granted, he's already set for 2010, but it does give him another chit to play with, even if not for 2010. What could possibly be left at pick 25? A journeyman utility guy who might help this year? An RP specialist? Maybe an SP coming off surgery that hasn't pitched in 1 and 1/2 years? My hope is that there will be a player available that will help in some small way this year, or a Dice K type who has potential to bounce back. Or maybe package that extra pick to move up in this or future drafts.

What we both discussed (as I have with you), is the lack of movement in this league. Perhaps most folks are waiting to actually see the cards, but seriously, here you have a very viable Marco Scutaro on the blocks, and there are a few teams in need of a SS, yet he remains on your team. If I were in need of a SS, I would have tried to get him BEFORE you got to see his card. Same situation with Schnoogen's catchers, Ray's rightfielders, my 2nd basemen, and so on. Maybe once the cards come out, we'll have a feeding frenzy, but for now, the league is very dormant.

I really can't say what is going on "behind the scenes". Maybe there are plenty of talks happening that I am not aware of. Heck, maybe EVERYONE is happy with their teams and nothing is needed to be done. In the same respect, announcing names like (I'll use my own) Khalil Greene, Jeremy Bonderman, and Manny DelCarmen does nothing to want to lead me to their team to even open negotiations with that owner, assuming those players are the ONLY ones he's making available. I was hoping my small post of a week ago with available players would at least lead to an email or two. I put some very useful pieces of someone's puzzle out there (IMHO), yet, I've gotten but one inquiry, and it was for someone not even on the list (which is fine, no one is sacred on my team).

Though I wasn't involved, it was exciting to see the player movement over the winter. Maybe that completed all the moves that were to be made this year. I guess we'll see this month.

We'll agree to disagree on the value/depth of [b:322631a5d1]this year's[/b:322631a5d1] draft ( Although I think your hedging a bit considering YOU did just aquire the 25th pick your self  ).

You are right that there isn't a 2 rated 3b available in this draft with Kouzmanoff's upside ( unless you have REALLY high hopes for Pedro Feliz :D  ), but there are at least 7 young 3b that are available, some that I think have as much potential as Kouzmanoff and some likely more, given what Kouz has shown. I also bet at least 6 of them are available at 25 and most will be available even later. But hey if you think this darft ain't all that, I'll glady take your picks in the first 3 rounds. :D

As for Scutaro, that's a head scratcher, other than the teams that seem to need him the most are also some of our most un-involved (if you will) managers. That said, after my inital post putting him out there, I haven't pushed it real hard at selling him because now that the defensive ratings are out, it's looking more like I'll just keep him and play his 3e4 at 2b over the collection of stiffs I have there currently. I figure I can afford it with a 1 at ss and Scutaro and Bartlett at the top of my lineup isn't a bad thing either.

The other thing that will get things moving, is setting a dealine for cuts, once I do that I promise this league will wake up, at least I HOPE it does. :? :(

I agree with you Bill, that once the deadlines are set into place that there should be some activity going on.Jerlins, some of us are in so many keeper leagues(right Bill  )that we have put more emphasis on those leagues since they have already started their drafting and cuts that the others get put in the background for the time being.

Of course I have been involved in a big deal already securing 3 1st round prospect picks that I am just sitting back right now trying to decide if I can contend this season or not.

now if I could just find my roster sheet I might start looking for a few outfielders to cover for Quentin and Hamilton having injury riddled seasons
