Baumgartner or McKain???

Postby Horntsnest1 » Sun Mar 19, 2006 1:26 am

After some of the advice I've gotten and after looking at Baum closely, who's better Baum or McKain for my team and ballpark?? PS, Shoffner is on the wire too....

This is post waivers...my concern is my bullpen..I originally had Murphy but had to trade him in to get Doerr...I'm not sure if its enough nor how to put the settings..I would have Tincup SU/CL against Rhs and against LHs Baumgartner set up and Dayley close..I would really appreciate any suggestions, thanks in afvance..Guido

Hey Guido I havent been around for a bit but have recently re-upped in ATG.............but in Polo with the firepower you have, I wouldnt worry bout the pen that much--I'd go with Baumgartner s/u and close for lefties and Tincup s/u and close vs rightys......and move Wera for an OF who can back all three positions up since Willie Jones cant be injured

Recommend Gaspar if available if not, Beals Becker can do the job

Your staff is fine.

I'd use Tincup to close both ways, Baumgartner to setup both ways and let HAL use Dayley and D'Aquisto at his discretion. You want your top two guys getting the most important innings.

Wera's gotta go and so does Torborg. Javier and Salmon are great slugging cheap infielders as is Bernazard.

Swoboda, Pafko, Brown, Moryn are some cheap slugging OF's.

Thanks for the help with the pen, this had me troubled because of the loss of Murphy..Doerr for Bishop(who is not available anyway) isn't something I would want especially since Catcher is gonna be a light hitting area and I LOVE Doerr's defense and occassional pop...as for the UT guys, Schaefer has always been great for me, 2B/OF, he wont hit many HRs but is very reliable and as for Wera, I think he is the BEST RH pinch hitter in ATG II for .50, guaranteed 4-8 PH HRs a season, I agree about Torborg but there was nothing else out there and I just wanted some insurance for Lake, if he goes down...maybe something better will turn up...
PS...Good to see you again Hitman :)

Guido, I think the pen is a might weak. But I don't see where you can shave enough to help it. Perranoski or Lefferts from the left as your strong left closer might help. I'd drop Dayley. But as is, I'd use Tincup and Baumgartner to setup and close from their respective sides, and set them both not to use until the 7th.
Be better if you could get Hall, Miller, or Wyatt for Dayley, but they are probably gone.
Good luck
Greg

If it were my team I'd drop Doerr and get Evers and use the money saved on the bullpen. I'd look at Quisenberry, Staley, Lamp, and Humprheys, Beggs, Klinger in addition to keeping Tincup and Baumgartner. That assumes that the better relievers are all taken. I'd even taken Willie Hernandez and dump Baumgartner if available and the others aren't.

Baumgartner reminds me of Earnshaw, who I used as a starter in HR20 parks on several teams all in a row. Didn't work, a mite too many 3 run homers. Never used Tincup so far. I really think he is overrated. I may, however, be the only one who thinks so... Don't like the # each way for HR parks, his OBP is not great vs. lefties against whom he also gives up something 17/108 chances for a sac fly. No groundball a's either on his card.
