Speaking of cuts, I was just reviewing the rules and looking for specific information but could not find it in the rules reguarding pre draft cuts and promotion of prospects so I'll post it here.

In the other league I run using these rules, (USKL3) this is how we handle propsect promotion:

In addtion to the 10 cuts required to bring your roster to 30 active platers, you must also annouce cuts for any promotionss of prospects you are intending to make. In simplist terms, if you have a 40 man active roster, and you want to promote 2 prospects to your active roster for the upcoming season, you need to make 12 cuts.

This is implied in the rules but not expressly written out, for that I'm sorry. The implication comes from the rules reguarding both prospects and pre season cuts.
Prospect rules state you can not add a propsect unless you have room on the roster. so if you have a 40 man active roster you can [b:2cb97214f9]not[/b:2cb97214f9], in mid season, drop someone and promote a prospect. If a trade gives you an opening, you have the option of filling it by promoting a prospect or waiting until the next free agent draft.
Pre season roster rules state that all teams must be at a maximum of 30 players prior to the draft.

Combining the intents of these 2 rules, is where the cuts for promotion of prospects comes from. Prior to the start of the draft everyone should be at 30 (or lower) so in order to fit the prospects in, cuts must be made for them as well.

[color=darkblue:2cb97214f9]This also prevents "hoarding" where a guy holds onto a player until the end of the draft then promotes a prospect effectively keeping a player out of the draft pool that other teams may have wanted to draft.[/color:2cb97214f9] [b:2cb97214f9]*[/b:2cb97214f9]

I'll send this out in an e-mail along with the rosters...

Player Movement

Postby mulls70 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 2:03 pm

or a lack there of.

I think once you set a deadline for cuts the action will start. mikelopp and I are in a Netplay league and our cuts were due this past Monday, so we were busy with that. The trading was very busy in that league leading up to the cut date. I'm sure things will pick up here.

I made a lot of moves earlier this winter, so I don't have a lot left to do, but I'm always game for some hot stove action.

I was a bit surprised that I didn't get a single bite on either Hamels or Lackey. They're just going to become more expensive once the season starts!

I am in dire need of a 1B slugger, so actually, JimMullins, what ARE your plans with Morales and Cabrera? His is pretty much the only team with a logjam of talent at 1B (and I could have given more for Votto, I'm mad I missed on him!)

I gotta say, I am pretty happy with my team right now (at least my starting lineups). I plan on filling any holes I have in the draft. Plus, I really don't have a lot of depth to offer anyone. Those of you who are in the USKLIII know... I am not shy about talking trade. :D

Well, speaking for myself, it's VERY rare I chase after a LHP, unless they are a top 3 card and Hamels ain't that

As for Lackey, I may have interest, but I don't think I have a good fit for you. I certainly don't have a 1b slugger I can afford to lose, (unless you consider Daniel Murphy and his 12 hr's a "slugger") Otherwise you look pretty set to me, other than LF where I'm also not deep.

I will offer you 2 of your choice between Murphy, Church and Rios for Lackey and your 5th round pick though.

Now at least you can't say no one offered...

Hmmm..

I'm a little suprised by that actually. You are one of the teams I thought would be after Scutaro and middle infielders in general. But yeah I like the rest of your lineup...

Scutaro

Postby cshannajr » Wed Feb 17, 2010 3:46 pm

I would certainly like to have him...I just don't have much to give up without disrupting my team too much. I like having a 1 at SS too, even though his bat will be silent. I am hoping my SP and lineup will be good enough to make up for his lack of O.

Actually mikelopp has Cabrera and Morales. I have Votto and Teixeira.

Yep, keeps looking more and more like Mr scuatro will be my second sacker this year...

and given that not many of us seem to be able to make trades fit, it's gonna make for an INTERESTING draft me thinks...

I'm beginning to wonder if were all gonna be after the same 15-20 guys.
