Speaking of cuts, I was just reviewing the rules and looking for specific information but could not find it in the rules reguarding pre draft cuts and promotion of prospects so I'll post it here.
In the other league I run using these rules, (USKL3) this is how we handle propsect promotion:
In addtion to the 10 cuts required to bring your roster to 30 active platers, you must also annouce cuts for any promotionss of prospects you are intending to make. In simplist terms, if you have a 40 man active roster, and you want to promote 2 prospects to your active roster for the upcoming season, you need to make 12 cuts.
This is implied in the rules but not expressly written out, for that I'm sorry. The implication comes from the rules reguarding both prospects and pre season cuts.
Prospect rules state you can not add a propsect unless you have room on the roster. so if you have a 40 man active roster you can [b:2cb97214f9]not[/b:2cb97214f9], in mid season, drop someone and promote a prospect. If a trade gives you an opening, you have the option of filling it by promoting a prospect or waiting until the next free agent draft.
Pre season roster rules state that all teams must be at a maximum of 30 players prior to the draft.
Combining the intents of these 2 rules, is where the cuts for promotion of prospects comes from. Prior to the start of the draft everyone should be at 30 (or lower) so in order to fit the prospects in, cuts must be made for them as well.
[color=darkblue:2cb97214f9]This also prevents "hoarding" where a guy holds onto a player until the end of the draft then promotes a prospect effectively keeping a player out of the draft pool that other teams may have wanted to draft.[/color:2cb97214f9] [b:2cb97214f9]*[/b:2cb97214f9]
I'll send this out in an e-mail along with the rosters...
