Well if nothing else, nice to see all the chatter in the league even if deals aren't getting done...

Cabrera, Morales? Votto, Teixiera?

Thanks, but for 2010, I'll take Lee and Howard combo.

And holy crap, I am sooooo stupid, and yes, Bill, you have been proven correct yet again. I guess this is an example of how old dogs never change. I NEVER read instructions before putting something together, and now this!!!! I had NO CLUE, and I mean literally NO CLUE, that we had to get down to 30 players before the draft, or anytime for that matter. So I guess there will be players indeed in the upcoming free agent draft. You kept telling me that, and I just kept calling you a windbag. I suppose I read it at one time when i joined this league, but if I did, I sure forgot about it. And with that said..........

Mike, I honestly did not know everyone had to drop 10 players. You are welcome to rescind the trade if you wish. Surely I expect something better than Kouzmanoff at pick 25. I'm cool with it if you wish to rethink the trade.

Yep we dump approximately 120 players back into the pool every year
Jerry, and that's not even WHY I keep saying this will be a deep draft.

Last year when we started this deal, we were only allowed to draft [b:ddf6a1b882]TSN Carded[/b:ddf6a1b882] players in the 40 round and supplemental drafts. So there were some players, (Franklin Morales & Dexter Fowler just to name 2) we likely would have like to have drafted that we couldn't. We also couldn't draft them as prospects because although they did not have a card, they did have MLB service time and were threrefore ineligible for the prospect draft.
Well this year, and every year going forward, [b:ddf6a1b882]we will be able to draft any player who played in the MLB for both the Spring draft and the supplemental draft, doesn't matter if they only had 1 plate appearence or only 1 inning pitched.[/b:ddf6a1b882] If they saw playing time they are eligible. (Now before anyone mentions Nelson Cruz, I believe we allowed players that had cards in previous years to be drafted)

Now that also means they are not eligible in the prospect draft, so some of us will be "prospecting" in the free agent draft and likely have 1 or 2 uncarded players.

It might also get you to let go of one more of those 3rd baseman now too as keeping so many limits your options.

BTW, keep reading, you also have the option of cutting MORE than 10 but you cannot cut to any less than 25.

So again, this is the deepest spring draft we will see simply because of the players that were excluded last year, so I'll galdly take 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks from anyone willing to move them. :D

You'd have figured it out once I sent the draftable players list, I have no doubt, course by then it might have been to late, so bravo for your realization. :D

Yes, it certainly changes my perpective on things as far as what to trade and what not to trade. :)

Two Cents

Postby Madigan33 » Fri Feb 19, 2010 2:14 pm

A couple thoughts about trades.

I have found there is a large gap in the way people value players. You can talk to 3 people about the same player and get three very different offers. I think this makes people less likely to trade. There are some really good cards out there for players that older or had a huge year that they are unlikely to reproduce. These cards tend to be very devalued in trades.

I think the biggest obstacle is communication. If I could talk to someone on IM to discuss trades I would probably trade more. It is a hassle using Sportingnews crappy e-mail system and some people like to have long negotiations.

The last obstacle I have seen is that it is hard to piece teams together between two people. I had some players that had 8 BP's and a high HR % but I was in a pitchers park making them useless. I tried to trade them to a couple players in hitters parks for singles hitters but no one was interested. I am not saying those people were wrong but I looked at the trades they seemed like good moves. Sometimes I would get an offer for one of my *SP with no *SP in trade and not having would mean I would lose alot of good innings pitching have two crappy guys filling in. The trade was fair in value but not practical.

I am not complaining or try to offend anyone, just my two cents. In my fantasy baseball and football leagues they same issues are often the problem to getting trades done.

You bring up some valid points, I do not beleive I've tried to talk trade with you although you do have several players I like for this year, (Izturus, Pagan, Danks, Broxton and especially Span whom I LOVE), but I haven't approaoched you because in looking at the rest of your team I don't think I have good fits to fill your needs or could afford what I think it would take to pry them away.
I will say though, and anyone who has dealt with me can attest to this, I give VERY lengthy explanations in my trade discussions, discussing why I like/dislike certian players and why I think the deal is good for both sides. So you are right, communicating is KEY. (BTW I'm on AIM, screen name sf49ersphan, if anyone wants to use IM to talk trade.)

It's also tough at this time of year, as I think all of us beleive we have a chance, for the championship, so no one wants to give up on this season, or move a player that that helps long term.
Again, I still think once I post the cut date ( c'mon TSN release the new game already) and you all start looking at who you will promote and/or cut, it will spur some action. If it doesn't, it's not any big deal, we just all really like our teams I guess. The only thing that drives me a littel batty or that I don't understand, is when some teams hoard 4 or 5 guys that all play the same position, when moving one or 2 of them could garner them help at another position, that one always leaves me scratching my head. As always, YMMV  .

What about setting up a Yahoo Group for our league? That way trade offers will go through each owners email. We probably all check our email more than we check our TSN inbox. I agree the TSN email system is terrible. It makes it a pain to go back and forth with a fellow owner when negotiating a deal.
