No, unfortunately you do not actually play the game. Once a season starts, always on mondays, each team will play a 3 game series against another team in the league.

When you sign on the next day (or late at night) you will see the results from the previous nights games on your teams "Front Office" page. You can then click on each game and see the box score including a play by play for each at bat. You can also view standings, and stats including team stats and individual stats and player leaders in may stats.

While the boxscore shows total pitch counts for each pitcher there is not a "count" given for each batter. The only thing that is shown is the end result of the at-bat.

If I knew how to make a link to my team's "front Office" I would so you could see what an "in play" Team's page looksl ike.

I only play the 70s and 80s mystery card games, but here's what one of the team pages in the 70s game looks like. It's similar to 2008 or ATG

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/baseball/stratomatic/70s/team/team_other.html?user_id=66106&stats=sim

And here is what a boxscore looks like.

I don't think there is a way to like to a front office page.

Although you don't roll the dice, I find the computer game to be even more fun. First of all, you get to be the general manager as well as the manager. And of course, you actually can play a full season in a reasonable amount of time. And if you love SOM then you love stats, and the stat breakdowns and boxscores are beautifully done. HAL (the computer that tries to do your bidding) is remarkably adept, *most* of the time.

PS the 70s mystery card game is my favorite.

Speaking of stats . . .

Postby artie4121 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 3:09 pm

Since I'm a stat junkie who analyzes to DEATH each series, I still have a hard time discerning when my runners have been thrown out because of my aggressive baserunning. The box score needs to be combed with that.

Also . . . you'd need to have the cards right in your hands to know the impact of a clutch hitting situation.

I wonder if there is any way Bernie can add to his list "add more transparent margin comments on clutch, aggressive baserunning, etc." to the box scores. Ballpark SI, HR, X-Chart errors results and Fatigue are in the margins. Why not the others such as "Clutch Hit!," or "Thrown out trying to stretch." (and yes, I can Ctrl-F 1-o, 2-o, etc. but it becomes more laborious than it needs to be if there is a simple script that could display this.

Game winning hit might be good as well! :)

I'm just sayin' . . .

Anyone have any other things they'd like to see indicated in box scores?

Rather than putting the results in game logs, it would be nice to show outfield assists in the actual box score, as is done in MLB nowadays.

Ideally, the UZR defensive ratings from FanGraphs would be calculated and tracked. I think TSN is a long ways away from that, despite its relative simplicity.

How would you do UZR when you don't know what zone the ball has been hit to? Any thoughts on how to accomplish that?

You are right in two things Dave.

First, that we can add Outfield Assists to the box score (AND game log. why not?)

Secondly, that TSN is a far distance away from UZR analysis. . . therefore, perhaps they should concentrate on what they can do, and that which is simplest.

But we can dream, can't we?
