Pipgras or Munger?

Pipgras or Munger?

Postby PillPop » Mon Mar 20, 2006 2:16 pm

I have way too much time on my hands, so I'm splitting hairs to a ridiculous degree. I've been waffling back and forth between George Pipgras and George "Red" Munger for a slot on my medium-budget five-man rotation for a Polo Grounds team.

Anyone have experience with either of these guys? Does it matter? Or is it a case of six of one George vs. half a dozen of the other?

Never used Pipgras, but have used Munger before. Pippy is a bit more balanced, but has a high OBP. Munger is good if there are a majority of RHs in your division as his OBP vs RHs is decent.

Best of luck, sschu

This is a situation where DiamondDope comes in handy to evaluate players against each other. In this case, Munger's ERA vs righties (at about 1.6) is a run and a half better than vs lefties(over 3.0), while Pipgras is under 2.1 vs rightes and under 2.3 vs lefties.
I prefer Pipgras, and have used him much more often than I have used Munger. Of course, my winning % is under .500, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.
