How did you "discover" SOM online?

Postby YountFan » Thu Mar 04, 2010 8:06 pm

Back with SOM (the game company) used to mail out the Strat-Fan newsletter I saw and ad and it looked like fun (and it is). It not for that lone ad I may not be here

I was sitting in front of my computer, bored, looking for some distraction. I remembered how much I enjoyed playing SOM w/ cards as a teenager and I thought I'd look and see if there was an online version. Just my luck, they had just introduced the online version and I signed up for one of the first 2001 leagues. I was so excited and so into it that a while I analyzed my team's games AB-by-AB. I still remember the key players of that first team: Tejada, Thomas, Hudson, Chavez....that's all I remember.

A good friend of mine Houston Met Fan originally turned me on to the table top game. Had a blast with it too. Then later on after he moved 3/4 of the way across the country he sent me an e-mail invite to join a league online here.

Thanks Joe...I've enjoyed it ever since.

I looks like I was a later arriver than you guys. Leading up to the 2007 MLB season I started looking for a free baseball fantasy league.

Went to the ESPN site first (where I typically got all my sports news/info). I started thinking about where else I could look.....hmm....CBS Sportsline....Fox Sports.....I think Sporting News has a site.

I came to the site, put the mouse on the Fantasy drop down. Whats this....Strat-O leagues? I loved that game, what is this about? I've been hooked ever since.

I don't know why it took me so long after discovering this site to look for the game companies site but I finally went there to see all the products. I recently bought the Hockey board game. Between that site and here.....its going to break me!

Used to play in about 10 fantasy baseball leagues a year. Dropped down to about 4 per year when the US Air Force sent me to the United Kingdom. I was spotlighted nationwide as the Fantasy Baseball manager of the month for SportingNews and was invited to check out their other fantasy sports. Saw the SOM online with the 80s game just coming out, clicked on the cards of the three players I always drafted 1,2,3 with the board game, (we used all cards from 1985-1987, not the same as I select now because we knew exactly which card we were getting, they were the 85 George Brett, 85/87 Don Mattingly, and the 85 Gary Carter) and was immediately swept up in the nostalgia. Bought my first on-line team, HAL gave me love as the wildcard and I had my first ring (and a long dry spell after that one) and now I play occasionally as work and family schedule permit.
