Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Pete Rose doesn't bother me much. He is pretty nice in person. I asked him to put his autograph and a number on a ball and he responded: "Do you want my player number or prison number?" It must be hard sitting at a table every year in front of the HOF knowing that he really blew his legacy.

I don't like the Black Sox at all, but I wonder about the true story concerning Joe Jackson.

I use Strawberry a lot also. His addiction is what it is, an addiction. Gambling is also an addiction, so he and Rose are both medically impaired.

I do refuse to have Mel Hall on my team. 2 counts of rape is much worse than an addiction. He needs to be banned from the 80s.

Emotional feelings toward players are a strong factor for me when drafting as well. Case in point is the fact that I have yet to fill out a draft card (non-theme league related) without Kevin McReynolds being on it.
There is also a small group of players who I will refuse to draft as well.
In the worst case scenario I would have them on my team, but I would have exhausted all other options beforehand.
Oddly enough though, as much as I loved him as a player, I will not have Gary Carter (80s) on my team for any reason because of his salary. I wish SOM would change it.

I think I just have to keep Rose and hope he puts it together. There is no other option for me...the other good LF guys are taken. There are two good RFs out there, but the problem is, Rose is now the only guy on my team that can play LF. So I can't drop him for a RF.

I hate Jose Oquendo and his stupid hydrocephalic batting helmet with the double ear flaps and extra padding. That home run he hit off Hammaker in the '87 playoffs made my hair turn gray...I can still see his little ratty face peeking out from under that Zeppelin of a candy-apple red batting helmet, chopping down on the ball and hoping to beat one out, but Hammaker's fat pitch somehow caroming off the top of the bat barrel and rocketing out to left.

I won't even PLAY the 80s game out of fear of having to cope with Jose Oquendo.

Great. Now I'm all retraumatized. And of course I had to go look for an image...(throwing up in my mouth)...

Rose update:

I stuck with him, and he's up to .269.

So he was 26/120 to start the season (.217)
and 42/133 (.316) since then.
He is now 68/253 (.269) overall. Still underperforming, but not unacceptable.

Every once in awhile, people just find their way outside of the normal curve. I guess it's a good lesson.
