NEW STRAT KEEPER LEAGUE

Yea for Wangfuddle's plan! Common Sense!

Billy, your draft gives me only 9 draft picks, and I started draft with 30 on my roster.I have no pick in 1st or 10th round, and 2 picks in 6th and 9th, I need my 2nd pick in the 9th to have a full team.

So, WP, would this mean that litangel can use his second pick in the 9th, which brings him to 40, then trade me a tenth?

Billy,

Here's my point:

With the current system, we're always creating and destroying draft picks when any trade occurs. It's very confusing and hard to keep track of how many picks everyone needs at any given moment. It also makes it very strange and difficult to trade low picks, as now you can be penalized and have to make additional drops, and/or not be able to get to 40. Litangel would need to have cut 11 players, so he would have the ten draft picks he has (traded two, acquired two), and then he would have to draft an extra player in the 11th round.

With the way I proposed, each draft pick is still accounted for with a drop from somebody. (Litangel for the two picks he traded, and whoever traded them to him for the other two). Also, we don't have to bookkeep as much, as we simply forfeit any draft pick that is to be made by anyone with 40 players on their roster. It just seems simpler, fairer, and I don't see that it hurts anything.

Let's say I trade a player to you for a 10th round pick. I have one less guy to drop to get to 30 before the draft, but you have one more, so the total is the same, it just places the burden on the person receiving the player, rather than the one receiving the pick.

If you acquire an extra early round pick, admittedly, you will have to forfeit your #10 pick when it becomes your turn, so I see your point about not being able to trade it. However, you could just as easily do a 2 for one during the draft and need that pick, anyway, so it would re appear.

I just think it's easier and fairer to make your drops correspond to your picks, and then deal with the consequences of trades as they come up. What do you think?

MY DRAFT IS SHOWING AS ENDING TOO EARLY

Postby CaliENGR » Fri Mar 19, 2010 6:32 pm

Hello Billy V & WP,

I went into this draft with 26 players on my roster. With 3 1st round picks, 2 2nd round picks, 2 3rd round picks, 2 6th round picks & 1 pick in each other round.
With my math that would have my draft ending after my 9th round pick & not after the 7th. Please let me know if I'm wrong about this.

Thanx,
Rick

Does he get the 9th round pick he received in a trade with thisisray, which puts him at 40, and still trade me his 10th? Or does he have to forfeit that pick, in which case, he should still be allowed an 11th round pick to get to 40?

MY ROSTER

Postby CaliENGR » Fri Mar 19, 2010 7:25 pm

Billy V,

My cuts are posted earlier in this thread with my roster which you are correct, stood at 27. After trading 3B-S.Rolen to the G-MEN (Steve Davis) for his 2nd Round Prospect pick (BTW-I now how 5 prospect picks two 1's, one 2 & two 3's) puts me pre-draft at 26.

Thanx,
Rick

After much detective work, I have discovered the culprit--Brad Lidge. He is listed on your team on the pre-draft rosters that WP sent out. I cross-checked against the old rosters, and found him listed on Steve Davis' team. He is not on Steve's cuts. I went back through numerous pages of posts and did not find a trade involving Lidge. Rick and Steve, please check in and clarify. Thanks.

Billy,

Think of it this way:

When you make 10 drops, you get 10 picks back in return. These picks can be traded. If the current owner of any pick is on the clock, and has 40 players, the pick disappears and it is the next person's turn to draft. The same is true if you cut more than 10 players, though I don't know who would want to trade for a 12 rounder, since one would just be created for you anyway.

Likewise, if, at any time during the draft, you don't have a pick, say, in round 12, but it would be your turn and you are under 40 (because of a trade), a draft pick is created for you. We end when everyone either has 40 players, or we complete 15 rounds.

Each pick is paid for by one cut, and the bookkeeping is made much easier. Plus, we don't have a weird situation you describe where people need to forfeit picks and then get later ones. I don't think you should be punished for making trades (as that is what makes the league much much more fun than a standard league, IMO).

Russ and Neil,

Please post your trade in this thread, as the draft thread may get lost many pages back at some point. Thanks.

Steve is up, but the clock is off until tomorrow. Ineluki and Russ have make up picks and can go any time.

GMEN & PACIFICA

Postby CaliENGR » Sun Mar 21, 2010 4:24 am

I traded RP-B.Lidge to G-MEN for Steve's 6th RD Draft pick in this draft. We both announced this trade between Season 1 & Season 2.

I'm sure Steve will confirm this trade. This happened with you & I regarding Snyder & Affeldt between Season 1 & 2.

Thanx,
Rick

Gotcha. That's why I have him on Steve's team on the earlier versions of the roster. Problem is, Steve's post where he lists his cuts and his roster don't have him showing up either way. But I'll adjust the draft list so that you are picking until the 9th.
