Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

So maybe this is what I am doing wrong.

OK, first night of a new league, playing in KC (S 1-16, HR 1-2)

Benito Santiago get's injured. HAL batted him 5th vs RHPs in two games. His injury isolates 2 cards:

1990: AVG .270 OBP .323 SLG .419 2R
1991: AVG .267 OBP .295 SLG .403 2L

My question for the guys that win all the championships in this card set is....do I keep him and hope for the 50/50 chance it is the better card or dump him since neither his best card available and try to get a catcher with a chance of a better card?

What was the complete lineup HAL used?

For the record though, I would likely consider him a keeper regardless of which of those 2 seasons you have.
if I draft Santiago, I am preparing myself for 87/90/91 as keepers and 88/89 and cards to get rid of.

Keep him, you know the two, so wait and see the split and then decide before game 39, bit at catcher you reaaly are not going to get too much better

I suppose I could end up with a lot less, it's not a bad "known" I guess.

my first instinct would be 1990 simply because he batted ahead of Gwynn.
HAL likes high homerun guys and will generally bat them higher in the order over a guy with higher on base numbers but very low HRs.
his 1.57% homeruns in 91 may not be enough for HAL to bat him ahead of the higher on base that Gwynn has, but I believe that his 3.47% in 90 is enough.
I'm curious to see where he bats vrs lefties. HAL takes all W power guys and throws them at the end of the lineup, so if he bats at the bottom vrs lefties, it almost assures that it's 90 (exception would be 1st or 2nd, those are the only 2 lineup slots I can not discern a reasoning behind, it's almost like HAL uses the 1 and 2 slots for players he can't figure out how to place in the lineup).

Tartabull for TooBig47

Postby ROBERTLATORRE » Wed Mar 24, 2010 5:28 pm

So this could be another mistake I make, but I would cut him right away and go fishing for better. You can evaluate 3 or 4 guys before the pool gets diluted and to me it would be worth the chance. There are still a bunch of BIG cards available, just not a lot of guys with 3 or 4 good cards.

Looking forward to hearing from the top managers on this one.

Not a top manager, but you can do better than that Tartabull card. There are ton of guys who can DH
