[quote:7ccfcd1e33="seanreflex"]I've had a hard time statistically quantifying what works in Fenway as far as pitchers are concerned.

Some of the lower priced lefties have done well for me -- Hurst, JHJohnson, Price, Schatzeder, Hesketh, McWilliams, Vida Blue. Clemens does well anywhere, but specifically there.

BPHR don't seem to hurt too much at Fenway. Lower WHIP's work well, although I have used Soto unsuccessfully there ..
I'll have to really study my Fenway pitching staffs to establish the common threads between what works and what doesn't.

I'll get back to you on it. [/quote:7ccfcd1e33]

Thanks for thinking about it. It's interesting to see that lefties can do well. I've used them sparingly in the past, but in Fenway, maybe they control that high lefty BA. Lower WHIP is always good, and I'm not suprised that Clemens thrives. Any experience with Orel or Blyleven?

Hopefully Skipper makes some changes, or he's going to be the Skipper of a shipwreck !![/quote:7ccfcd1e33]
Too true.

Outta,
not used either of those guys there. Most of my experience in Fenway is in the Decade league we're playing -- starting in 1981, we're playing 10 seasons; you can only use players that have a card in the year that you're playing, we're in 3rd year right now 1983, so we havnt used alot of the big name starters yet. This is actually how I've used guys like JHJohnson, Schatzeder, Liebrandt, Boyd, McWilliams, Falcone, etc. Hough has done okay there.

Your pitching is going to be a staff of 4.25-4.50 ERA and 1.35-1.55 WHIP. If your'e patient with that and stack your lineup, you can do well.

Here's a link to an active team i have at fenway in the decade league so you can get an idea of who's performing. also a link to the "Franchise" theme league ...

let me know what you think -- do you see any signs or stats that suggest what might work best there?

actually, looking at Skipper's league, the Boston Buckners have a pretty darn good lookin' Fenway ballclub (or a good looking club in most parks, I'd say)

Righty power with Rice, Evans, Carter, Parrish. OBP with lefties Cooper, Whitaker Greenwell and Butler

Good bullpen -- Sutter can be awesome, Burg is solid, the other 3 all good value

Starters - not a ton of $$ tied up there; should be in that 4.50/1.5 range, and the team will be towards top of league in hitting, middle of league w/pitching.

Defense -- very very good -- not sure why you need 2 thirdbasemen that both favor LHP, but he has solid D at C, 2B, SS and CF ...

look for the Buckners to be strong in this league.

SKIPPER -- PAY ATTENTION HERE !!! YOU CANNOT WIN WITH A DOUBLE PLAY COMBO OF LIND & FLETCHER .. MAKE CHANGES QUICK !!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW...the Buckners Manager did a terrific job. I agree with Sean...it would be a team you could play in any stadium. Skipper...take a look at the Buckners team....that's what you would like your next team to look like.

Thanks, Sean, for posting the Fenway teams. That helps me to get the idea.

I agree with both Sean and Jimmy_C about the Buckners team, though the pitching worries me a little. Actually they've got 4.5M unspent, so there's cash to upgrade the SP.

We did our best for Skipper, but from now on I'm rooting for the Buckners! :D
