The team that makes no sense

Postby honestiago1 » Sat Sep 17, 2005 6:05 pm

I got so fed up with my original ATG II team's mediocrity that I thought, "Well, let's live down to our record." I nuked the lineup, snatched McClain from the free agents list, and picked up a bunch of no-power, fair average, speedy clutch hitters. We went from being 3 games under .500 ro 3 games over. What I can't figure out is...how?

Any theories?

Playing three of the weak sisters in your league with two series at home, where your pitching is going to help, certainly could explain your recent success. Your real test will be on the road in the hitter's parks.

Hope the turn around continues for you :D

weak division

True, but c'mon -- look at what I got in the lineup. Nuthin'. I don't expect it to continue. Too much pressure on Koufax and McLain to win every time. And Koufax has been getting hit harder and more often. I imagine a .500 season might be the best I can hope for with this team.

You ought to be very happy to finish .500 with a $61M roster in an $80M league. I think you'll be extremely lucky for that to happen.

Yep

I'll bet they do finish .500, just to spite me. My division doesn't appear to be as strong as the rest of 'em. Either way, I'll be sticking with 80s teams from here on out. The Mystery Card equalizes things a bit. There are a lot of number crunchers out here who have it down to the button.

Hanging in there

The team that makes no sense still has an outside shot at the playoffs! We're in divisional stretch now.

Will Mclain, Koufax and Drysdale pitch the league's worst offense to the playoffs? (I doubt it, but hey -- you never know).

I won a ring with a great pitching, no hit club. I even won a no-hitter thrown against me, 1-0. No, I didn't score on an error. I had a player walk, steal 2b, advance to 3B on a groundout, and score on another groundout. It is very possible to win with good pitching and no hitting.

Back to reality

Well, we tumbled to 71-76. We're pretty much out of it. Meusel got hurt for the SECOND TIME! He was my only good hitter.
