New League Names

So I see a new league with the name "Under 500 points". Seems like this encourages newer players to work on their strategies - yet one team has 2282 points. Shouldn't there be a way to prevent this from happening? Don't like the idea someone wants to fly under the radar........aren't most of us wanting to kind of play fair here?

He may just not have noticed. There was/is ongoing posts about this in ATG, where it generated all kinds of comments. There is a way to prevent someone not qualified from joining, and that is by forming a private league. However, I agree with you that there is nothing wrong with creating such a Public League and I don't see why anyone would purposely join one they were not welcome in. A Public League just saves all the Private League invitation and password B/S that the league creator probably doesn't want to deal with. If you read the ATG posts though, for reasons I can't understand many do not feel the same.

Thanks for your thoughts. Like you, I just can't imagine why someone would join a league intentionally where they flout the basic premise, which is a fair one. Just get the feeling that the league name is hard to miss, so I opted out - plenty of other leagues to join.

He's mainly an ATG guy. Only 610 of the 2284 are from 200x games with almost half of that from 2002. 56 teams - 11 playoff appearances for 200x. If you like the league otherwise I wouldn't view him as automatic threat.

Based on what Palmtana says it may come down to an interpretation. When a league is simply named 500 pts or less is that 500 overall points or 500 2010 points. He may have interpreted that as less than 500 points earned for 2010 and thus he qualifies on that technicality.

I have not seen the league but much of the ATG discussion was around whether the league is advanced or standard. Many feel that designating a league as advanced is inviting the best to compete. I tend to lean in that direction.

I just went and looked at the 2009 leagues forming. The league name is "2009 500 pts or less". Based on this name I would assume the limitation is specifically 2009 points. Thus I would consider myself eligible as I only have 10 2009 points. But of course if the intent of the league was to limit overall points and not specifically 2009 points as name suggests I am not even close to eligible.

Moral of the story: If you are going to limit participation by name only and not password put some time and thought in to the name to avoid misunderstandings.
