Changes to the opening day roster

Changes to the opening day roster

Postby boyer14 » Tue Apr 13, 2010 9:09 am

In two recent leagues I have noticed that one manager in each league has made changes to their opening roster after 10:00 PM EDT without incurring any hit to their 80 M salary total. The players they droppped all played in the first series, then were dropped.

In both situations there were clear advantages to these moves. In the first, the player used several lefty hitters who excel against the lefty pitchers he would be facing in PNC for the first series - then dropped them for a more balanced roster for their other games. In the second this player used three stud starters (and a .5 M fourth man) for the first series then dropped them to get a more balanced 4 starter rotation for the remainder of the season. Neither player appears to have needed any unfair advantage as both appear to be excellent players straight up.

I am told this is a loophole and is well-known to some of the veteran players - but it is not clearly noted in the rules and not known to some (many?) players (like me). Even knowing it I am not excited about using it to gain an advantage.

After reading the recent thread on this board about the "TSN-STRAT ethical dilemma" posted by marcus wilby (I don't think that glitch was ever fully explained) I am concerned that there are more of these glitches out there that provide unfair advantages to some players and that many of us not in the know are not playing on a level playing field.

I wonder about others' thoughts on these glitches. Why aren't they simply closed up so everyone can compete under the same rules??

Thanks for listening!

Walden-
I have known about it for awhile but have not used this tactic yet and never will...it is gaming the game. Maybe one of the reasons these players are so good is that they find an advantage and use it. I just can not bring myself to use it.

I agree, this glitch should be closed and I don't understand why TSN doesn't do it. I am pretty sure they know about it.

I have not and will not use it, and am glad others feel the same way. However there are too many out there that do and will use it as long as it is available. :(

If you drop players before the first series is completed then you do not take a hit on cap. I also have never used this "stategy" and never will. I find it to be (not sharing how I really feel about it) not nice. Mike

I am happy to see that others will not be using this glitch to manipulate their opening day rosters, and I feel better just airing my grievance.

I was thinking more about the potential benefits. For a single opening series it is possible to gain up to a three game advantage but unlikely that this manipulation would really get you more than a 1 or 2 game edge (maybe a 2-1 start rather than 1-2??) - which you would then have to hold onto for the remainder of the season to reach the playoffs. But how often have you been edged out of the playoffs by a single game or a tie-breaker? - probably enough times to matter.

One of the glitch users is participating in the Good People ATG tourney (4 teams per player with 1 point per win and 5 points for reaching the playoffs - top 12 point totals going to the Fianls). This player have used the glitch in each of the first 2 rounds. Using this glitch to gain 1-3 games in the standings for each of the four seasons of the tournament could give you as many as 12 additional points for wins and perhaps another 5 points if it gave you a playoff spot - that could well be the difference in reaching the top 12 for the Finals.

I greatly enjoy this game. I would love to see this (and other) glitches programmed out so that we could all know that we are playing this game on an even basis with everyone else.

The advantage the way I see it is the players dropped before the first series is done won't be on another team unless that team takes a cap hit. Taking said players off the board.

Doesn't sem like a Good Person then if playing in the Good People tourney. That person should be banned from the tourney.

You can always grab the players you know he'll try to get back and let him get stuck all year with his hard lefties that he picked up for his first game at PNC. If he drops Beckett and Cain for Wolf and Wandy at 9:55 Monday eve, just go ahead and pick up those two guys 8-)

To the Players

Postby chasenally » Thu Apr 15, 2010 5:09 am

For those that love this game. Why does it have to come down to this bullsh**. Everyone wants new blood in the game. This is not the way to get and hold onto new players. Do we want new players in the game so we can get more free credits. Do we sign up for a game that list it as under 500 rating when we have 1000. I understand that new players are helped out, but why are they screwed in the process. There are many games out there for every sport that are free. This is the only game I pay for. This is by far the greatest baseball game to play online. I tried to tell everyone that I drafted with in the CBS game that Strat sent us to. All I got back was Shut the F*** up and quit spamming this site. We as the Strat family need to play the game with integrity to hold onto the new players. Play fair and do whats right or you loose new players. It's tough out there, I am out of a job by my own fault but that makes it hard to spend my money on things other than food and housing. This game won't continue no matter how good it is if the players keep pissing off the new recruits. I think it's called one and done. Why don't we quit trying to game the game and game the gamer and just play the game. It's baseball and those that play this game understand BASEBALL. Most players don't stick around long and Bernie can't fix that if we don't police ourselves. Keep this great game going. Hold onto the new players and there will always be a league to join no matter what your skill level is.
