CATCHER INJURY QUESTION

CATCHER INJURY QUESTION

Postby toronto50 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 7:36 pm

can both catchers be injured at the same time?

David ROSS and Henry BLANCO are both 3's. If one goes down with injury is the other catcher steelplated and cannot sustain an injury?

Correct as long as you don't have some other hitter with a catcher rating on your roster. For example if you have Sandoval playing 3B for you as well as a starting C and another backup C then two of those 3 guys could be injured at the same time but not all 3.

exception to the rule would be if both somehow got hurt in the same game. The second catcher does not become an iron man until the start of the next game.

I thought I remember someone stating too that if the C is playing DH while your other C is Catching, they both could go down.

I have to snicker because this question comes up every season.

I have never seen both catchers hurt at the same time, even for the remainder of the game. A catcher playing DH will not go to C during the game in which the starting C gets injured. A position player will finish that game at C. To start off the next game, however, that B/U C will go to C and they'll be a new DH.

Never have I ever seen anything different from the above nor has it ever been proven otherwise.

Though I could be wrong about both catchers getting hurt in the same game, I thought it happened to me once before. I can't find where it happened, so I'm going to assume I'm mistaken if everyone else says it's not true.
I do however know for sure that HAL will not move the catcher playing DH to catch the next game, he will remain as the DH.

Chris Bando my DH remained my DH after Tony Pena got hurt and HAL used Bobby Bonilla to catch the remaining 2 games of the series.

That is true that a C playing DH will not be moved to C during the game where the starting C is injured. Also HAL can, and has, PH or PR for your only C during a game where the other C is already injured.

I however take advantage of the C injury rule by never having more than 2 players rated to C on my roster. I like using high injury backup catchers as you will typically get more production for your money with a high injury player and he will never get injured so you don't have to worry about the injury for your backup.

Another strategy is to use two high injury catchers knowing that one of them will always be healthy.

One last strategy that I sometimes use is to have both of your C rated players used as starting players. Have Sandoval as your starting 3B and someone else as your starting C. You are guaranteed not to have both of these starting players injured at the same time.

HAL "will" move the reserve catcher from DH to C in the 200X game, at least the late 2000's...don't think he will in Back to the 80's. That's why Bando remained at DH.
