Changes to the opening day roster

I agree Chase. I have found that MOST of the folks here are straight shooters. But these "gaming the system" loopholes are annoying. And I pledge that as I gain more points, I will NOT jump into a newby designated league when I am above the point level designated. I currently have about 140 points one playoff and one other Championship, and I would feel "small" if I jumped into a "No Championships," or "Under 100 point" league.

I keep hearing about the frustration of leagues not filling up, and I DO sympathize with big fans and supporters on that issue, but as you noted, driving away the New Blood won't do it.

Perhaps a Free Credit League to give newbies a chance to kick the tires and ramp up might be a good idea. ONE free credit with your credit card number and registration.

Thoughts?

This loophole should definitely be closed. I did know about it at one point, but subsequently let it slip from my list.

Might be worth noting that not all last minute roster changes are trying to game the system. For example in an ATG5 league I came out of autodraft with Aaron, Charleston, Stearnes, Musial, Terry, and Carew. All play first base and OF. So I had 6 great players to play 4 positions. I advertised saying I could part with any 2 and was primarily looking for a great second baseman.

I got one offer that had a decent second baseman. That offer asked for Aaron, Carew, a 10+ mil pitcher, and a 9 mil starting pitcher. I countered with Aaron for the second baseman. Response was hey you said you have 2 extra and cannot play them all. True but I do not have to give them away either. I also have Trammel, Appling, and Rizzuto. Nobody will give me a decent offer because they assume I will have to drop someone. And I will. Someone will be dropped. But I will wait until the last minute. Someone may pick these guys up but they will pay a 20% cap penalty.

Frankly I do not consider this an unfair loophole except for the fact not everyone knows about it. It can be fixed by making the cutoff to avoid the cap penalty at exactly 10 EST or by making it when the first games are played. If everyone knows how it works then it is not a loophole. So easy and quick solution is to edit the rules page to make it clear at what point the penalty starts kicking in.

I agree with Valen. As long as the rules are clear and everyone is aware then all are playing on a level field, and this is no longer a loophole. Your examples are fair and legit within the rules, as are the super-relievers like Kuo and Balfour in the 2008 set. Logically I think a 10 PM EDT cut-off for opening day rosters makes the most sense.
