Let's go with a team draft. I'll listen to the trade argument if you can garner enough support.

trade issue

Postby toronto50 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 7:08 am

as long as u maintain the minimum number of carded players for your team at 19 why not be able to trade an asset for another asset ur team might not have.

Here are some questions for you-
1-you say "unlimited trades for noncarded players only". Why not allow trades (within the $80 mil cap) for ANY players? I love making trades, and that would be part of the fun for me, esp. if I ended up with a team that didn't do well in real life. I always love a challenge and I always root for the underdog, but it would be nice to be able to make trades to try to improve the team! (BTW, there really aren't very many uncarded players, are there?)
2-I would like to draft to pick teams. Like I said, I root for the underdog and I love a challenge, but I would be more likely even to PICK an underdog if we had unlimited trades for all players, within the salary cap.
3-Just as support for what you are doing, I like the way you have the luxury tax and the draft - sounds very good![/quote:892f10f49c]

All three of these points sound good and I support adjusting the league rules as Geoff proposes. But I'm certainly willing to play the league as originally proposed.

Also, Geoff are you saying you'd be willing to draft the Pirates as a team option? Of course, I'm very disappointed that they are not one of the team options -- not. But I think they would make a good "underdog" for you to try.

I can go along with unlimited trades of any players as long as the minimum 19 real team/carded player limit is not circumvented.

drafting

Postby toronto50 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 10:45 am

Im still getting this all sorted out.

So if in the initial draft I ONLY draft players not carded to my team, i could draft 24 non-blue jays. Then I could decide to slowly add blue jays and throw back the non-carded players as long as i have 19 blue jays by the end of waiver time?

MBRAKE I'm just a little confused (I'm not eating enough blueberries I guess).

Sounds interesting and I'm in. For clarification I would like to know whether the roster sizes will all have to be 25 or can we go to the Strat limits? Using the Nationals as an example, does it mean that the Nationals general manager is limited to 69.25M not the usual 80.00M? Does it mean, in effect, that the two round initial draft is limited to players from the six teams not included among the 24 excepting of course those players already designated to one of the 24 teams? If some of these questions sound rather basic cut me some slack - I'm a Baltimore/Washington baseball fan and things have been rather lean around here recently.

Here is what is going to happen once the league fills:

1. We will have someone run a randomizer 1-24 (you get the number that you signed up as - e.g. I get the number 1 since I was the first one to sign up for this league, where ever that falls in the randomizer). This will be the order in which I get to draft a team. Say hypothetically, number one is the 17th. number slected, then I get team pick number 17 and will select one of the eight remaining teams.

2. After the team draft is completed, then the player draft will be held. Say you get the Blue Jays. You exclusively own all rights to all of their carded players using the unleased card set (29 players plus the rights to Eric Hinske). The Blue Jays own the sixth overall pick in the first round of the player draft and the sixth overall pick of the second round of the draft. You can skip your pick at your option if you don't want to pick up a player (highly unlikely, but your choice). [b:33265b505c]YOU CAN TRADE DRAFT PICKS OR THE RIGHTS TO ENTIRE TEAMS.[/b:33265b505c] You can only draft eligible players from the six draft eligible teams (minus player designated to low payroll teams to close the payroll gaps) plus the luxury tas FAs.

3. We will conduct round one of draft including teams ranked 1-17 only using this thread. After the first round is complete, then the second round will include teams ranked 1-21. After both rounds of the draft are completed, then I will issue the password to the "EAST" division. The password will be then sent to the other teams in the central, then midwest and finally the west teams.

4. Hypothetical example - Using your exclusive carded Blue Jays, you and you alone, will have the exclusive rights to their 29 carded players, plus Eric Hinske, and your two draft picks your two # 6 picks in each round) from the draft eligible teams (including the luxury tax free-agent players). From those 32 players only, you must rank your 25 players for the auto-draft. You cannot select anyone other than one of those 32 players. Your 25 man roster must include a minimum 19 carded Blue Jays! [b:33265b505c]YOU CANNOT DRAFT ANY PLAYER IN THE AUTO-DRAFT THAT YOU DON'T HOLD EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS SUCH AS PLAYERS THAT ARE CARDED TO ANYONE ELSE'S TEAM, NON-DRAFTED FREE AGENTS, OR LUXURY TAX PLAYERS ASSIGNED TO ANOTHER TEAM.[/b:33265b505c]

5. After the auto-draft, you will have your 25 man roster plus the exclusive rights to any remaining carded Blue Jays only, so other teams can't put a waiver claim on any card Blue Jays free agents. If you don't add Eric Hinske or your two draft players to your 25 man auto-draft que, then you lose their exclusive rights and they are now free-agents eligible to all teams during waivers.

6. After waivers has been processed, then any free agents (including carded Blue Jay free agents) are eligible to all teams. Reminder, you must maintain your minimum 19 carded Blue Jays ( I understand that during the pre-season you can go under 19 to allow you flexibility to manuver through various transactions, but you must be at 19 by the start of the season without any exceptions).

Clear as mud!
