Mystery Card games... what's coming up!

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

First. Cool.

Second. I take this as the time to start lobbying for who you want in this game (that might otherwise not be in)...so those opinions can be made known to SOM.

I'll kick it off with Nolan Ryan. An argument could be made that Ryan was at his best in a Ranger uniform and it would be great if he were in the 70's, 80's and 90's game.

...and while we're at it, let's put Seaver and Maddux in the 80's game and get Palmer some different cards in the 70's.
See, you give us an inch and we'll ask for a mile.

We get the 90'd because they already have the data (aka the cards), where they have the create the cards for the 60's for the game for many players.

But it will get good to have a upgrade

My rotation for the 90s:

1. Greg Maddux
2. Roger Clemens
3. Randy Johnson
4. Pedro Martinez

I now have $30 million left for the other 21 players.

It is exciting to heat that the Mystery card format will get a face-lift. Great to hear they will expand the players pool. I just hope they dont mess up the price structure. Part of the fun of the mystery games is finding a bargain here and there. While we all agree that there are many over priced and seldom used players in the 80's, there are at least enough bargains to make a fun team. I dont think they got the prices right in the 70's either. I think Jimmy C has made the point that the 70's really needs a 100 million payroll to be able to use any star players on your roster ( I agree with that ). Fix the prices of the Plunks and Langstons but dont over price the bargain players.

[quote:44efe94bee="The Senators"]Being the old dinosaur that I am, I was really hoping for a 50's or 60's mystery card game. The 90's to me was just swing from the heels and let it fly. I guess that's what the people want. It's probably time for me to just roll myself up in a big ball .....a-a-a-a-a-a-and die.[/quote:44efe94bee]

I am with you on that one, was hoping for 50s/60s as well. It would have been a blast to have mystery card versions of

Ted Williams
Mickey Mantle
Yogi Berra
Ernie Banks
Elston Howard
Don Drysdale
Roy Campenella
Duke Snider
Whitey Ford
Robin Roberts
Warren Spahn
Stan Musial
Gil Hodges
Nellie Fox
Bob Lemon
Pee Wee Reese
Red Schoendienst
Al Kaline
Don Newcombe
Hoyt Wilhelm
Early Wynn
Sandy Koufax

Mix in Mays/Robinson/Aaron/Clemente, would have been really fun.

Not trying to be ungrateful for the new game, just would have been nice to have gone back in time into a[b:44efe94bee] terrific [/b:44efe94bee]era in MLB instead of into the Steroid Era.

50's/60s might even have attracted some ATG players into the mystery card games as well.

Howdy,

I'm almost exlusively a 70s guy, so the changes appear to be welcome. Thanks, Bernie. :)

The 90's is easy to put together because all of those sets have super advanced cards to use so its an easy pick....

I wouldn't expect a reboot under the main SOM engine for the 70's/80's for I'll bet a year maybe more...As I have stated before Bernie has said that is a rather daunting undertaking. However I have asked Bernie before about adding some cards and repricing without putting everything under the main engine but there doesn't seem to be a clear response to it from him.

Here's what doesn't excite me about a 90's game...it the same problem I have with ATG and that is its way too unbalanced toward hitters...I mean and this is no lie...if you have a player hit 100 HRs in a season do you realize that you would not even set the single season HR mark in ATG? The 90's set is going to have everyone scrambling to get Sosa and McGwire so they'll hit 120HRs in Coors Field and you're going to have Maddux and Johnson have 4.50+ ERAs routinely...and just imagine how much more watered down the game will be if guys get cards in the early 2000's as choices.

The only way you make it really interesting is to do what I suggested before in mystery card games and that is make sure 1 card of the 5 is an absolute clunker when possible...pretty tough to do with Bonds since he never had an OPS below .924 in the decade and was over 1.000 8 times...however you could really neutralize Sosa and Mcgwire because they do have seasons available where they weren't bombs away...time will only tell!!!

I'll be just as bad in the 90s as I am in the 70s and 80s.

I think it is a no-brainer that Ryan will be in the 90's game. Use all 5 seasons as a Ranger (89-93). That is 3 super cards an above average card and the 93 season is the clunker.

If you use Greg Maddux's first 5 seasons that he played much (87-91) for the 80's game you get one really bad card, one really nice card and 3 above average cards. He wouldn't be a HOF type player but one that should be in the 80's game. There is also no reason that Tom Seaver is not in the 80's game. He didn't retire until after the 1986 season. Same with Phil Niekro. He pitched a year longer than Seaver even. You could even make an easy argument for Fergie Jenkins to be in the 80's game too.

How about Biggio as a C, 2B and OF in the 90's game!
