This team was super clutch out scored 583-691 but won the division proves there are many ways to win and never give up. I was 8 games out and flipped it to 8 games up...finished 6 up.made lots of roster moves to get them going...no trades. Major bullpen strength and won countless games with walk off hits and homeruns. please check out the link and give your opinions and analysis..thanks.

Your link is bad, but I have posted in the past that it seems my major underachieving squads with respect to run differential almost always fail because of the bullpen. Your overachieving because of the pen and clutch hitting isn't a surprise to me.

[b:7b276782d0]Steel[/b:7b276782d0]:

Your link is bad - but I'd still like to see your team.

Try this:

[quote:7b276782d0="Jerlins"]Step 1- Hit statistics at the top of the page to bring up team batting and team pitching
Step 2- Click on your team
Step 3- Copy and paste the internet heading (should have team id on it).
[/quote:7b276782d0]

After you go to the [i:7b276782d0]Your League[/i:7b276782d0] tab, hit [i:7b276782d0]Statistics[/i:7b276782d0], hit [i:7b276782d0]Team[/i:7b276782d0] and click your individual team from there.

Hey Gladiator - just curious with this question. An anecdotal answer would obviously be just fine.

I like to review the game play by play whenever I can, to see what really happened. I will often look up a die roll on a card to see whether it was a clutch hit or not.

Do you have a sense as to how many clutch ($) hits your batters are getting? My personal feeling is that the importance of clutch hitting is often understated and undervalued. I have seen it come into play somewhat often. The thing is, sure, it may not happen all THAT often, but when it does, it often is hugely important for a game win or loss.

OR, are you just saying that your team just did a great job of making the hits when they needed to - not necessarily (or at all) with ($) hits?

Another theory of mine is that base running is undervalued in general. In contrast to clutch hitting, there are a number of posts on the message boards that make this point. What was your team emphasis with respect to baserunning? And, in my own thinking just as important, what are your outfield throwing arms like? I think that with the rules that are used for online strat, where there are many extra opportunities to run for an extra base, that running ability and arm strength are actually very important, and may contribute to a good record in 1 run games.

One more question (I will try the link in a moment), were you playing in a ballpark that has a high portion of ballpark singles?

I'll ask you these questions, and please chime in, but I will also look at the link to see what I can.

Cheers!

LOL! Looks like my guesses were pretty much wrong, at least in terms of a huge emphasis.

Clutch ($) hitting - some good, some not. This doesn't seem to explain things, since there are many hitters who are NOT clutch ($) hitters. Although I did notice Adam kennedy. He is a favorite of mine already for 2009. He DOES have clutch hitting. I had him batting 6th for two of my teams. Both of those teams are in the playoffs in 2009. I think he works very well in the 6th spot. Maybe in any spot. Curious where you had him hitting?

Base running - good enough, I believe, but not crazy good. I am curious though, how often did you have base running set to aggressive? I set it at aggressive all year long and never change it. Overall, it seems to do good things for my teams! The extra runs from not being a passive base runner (as I believe HAL is sometimes) more than offset the odd out on a running play, in my view.

Singles park - no, not at all. Metrodome. But some of your hitters (like Ordonez and Pierzynski) hit lots of singles. I think that aggressive base running with lots of singles produces a lot of runs, and may produce those key runs in close games (runner taking the extra base to get, or help get, the winning run).

I am really fascinated by the one run win question - what are the factors that lead to a high percentage of 1 run wins? I am not saying I have the answers yet - just guesses. I hope to study this a lot to see if it is really just luck most of the time, or whether there are actually some trends and strategies that make a difference to the percentages of 1 run wins. Not sure yet how I am going to tackle that question. I can check into 1 run games for teams that had great records or bad records, but I'm really not sure how I propose to analyze that yet! Yeah, I am a little obsessed with strat baseball!

:)
