200/60 Keeper League- Year 4

Good ruling Terry. I get the feeling that I'm the wacky neighbor in this Strat-o sitcom, so in the future I'll be sure to run any hare-brained schemes by you first.

That ruling is fine by me. The Hairston trade would have gone through if I got him back or not, but it would have made the $60M more challenging as I'd already figured out a roster [i:88a8fc8fb8]with [/i:88a8fc8fb8]Hairston in it.

Can the Commish weigh in about the spirit of this ruling as well? For instance, Manager A trades Stud SP for a Manager B's number one draft pick and Scrub RF. After season Manager A trades Scrub RF to Manager B for Stud SP (i.e., a gentleman's agreement for a second trade)?

Sure. Something like that would be violating the no rent rule and would be obvious upon completion of the 2nd trade. In that case, the second trade would not be allowed.

I was with Rant and Kaviksdad on this one Terry, but I accept your ruling in this case and because I know you are firmly in line with the spirit of fair pay. That said, I strongly urge managers NOT to follow this rent-a-stud approach in future. There are just too many negative implications in a league of this size and the desperate nature of our rosters in some cases-- especially with our 2-season 200/60 format.

There is absolutely no precedent in baseball for this kind of practice, IMHO, but there are waivers, contracts, free agency, and other ways to try to keep things ven-- and there is even a very early trading deadline in season. I say if one wants to trade a player for anything one wants, that's probably fine, but the League Rules should not enforce such an unequal or use of a player in our own highly restrictive competitive frame of reference. Of course, I am able to recall talks of the 1950s KC A's becoming a farm club for the New York Yankees.

I have no real problem trading studs for future prospects, but including a "return after use" clause in the deal seems way over the top to me.

Cubit,

The ruling clearly states that the rental of players will NOT be allowed in the future.

[i:b940ec7042]In the future, for reasons listed on the posts, for the comaraderie of our league, and because the intention to rent players seems to be something that is not done in the online Strat leagues, we will not go forward with any similar trades. [/i:b940ec7042]

Thank you Terry. Sorry not to acknowledge earlier. May I ask if you could send me another copy of the current club rosters (assuming there is one) since mine has gone missing in my move to a new MacBookPro. It's probably in there somewhere, but I've got so many injuries at the moment on the Brahmins that I've got to scower my potential players.
