Computer Manager Question

Postby bob23m » Sat May 15, 2010 7:38 am

I have a question and wondered if anyone could help. In one of yesterday’s games my team was trailing in a close game with 1 out and a man on base in the bottom of the 8th. Shirley (lefty) was pitching and Aikens was due up. Aikens has “avoid lefties” marked and I had Castillo who hits lefties well on the bench. The CM let Aikens hit and he hit into a DP. Also available on the bench were 2 switch-hitters, so if the CM would have made a pitching change, another PH could have been inserted to counter the pitching change. In the bottom of the ninth, Nettles was scheduled to lead off and he also has “avoid lefties” marked but the CM let him make the first out with Castillo and others on the bench?

So 2 times back-to-back the CM totally ignored my settings. I’m not really complaining about that, but it is frustrating, what I would like to know is does the CM read the matchup and over-ride manager instructions? Or does the CM just ignore the instructions because it sucks?

Both Aikens and Nettles have one year in their five where they hit lefties and if the CM failed to pinch-hit due to solid logic, then that would tell me what year the sim is using.

You will learn to expect HAL not to use your setting. You have to keep them simple. I have not seen the 'avoid' setting work well out side if relief pitching where it is weak at best.

Repeat after me. "HAL is an idiot"

YF speaks the truth...

However, another possible scenario... Shirley is on a season where he leans Righty, and/or Aikens is on a season where he hits lefties better. I don't recall Shirley having a right/leaning card, or Aikens having a left-leaning card (I haven't used either one often), but it is possible...

but even if any of that is true, HAL is still HAL, so who knows?
