Best Values?

Todd Worrell - I avoided him forever as his card is really not that great, but obviously ATGII uses the closer role to some degree because he is a sensational closer

Kid Speer - Best value of starting pitchers other than Pete Alexander

Bob Meusel - Best value of outfielders

Think I'll rain on the Jo-Jo lovefest and I'd avoid him since he is cholesterol reincarnated on the basepaths. He even has trouble scoring in Vegas.

Recently there was a thread on "what we have learned" and I posted Erskine Mayer, now it seems he is a hot commodity and no longer available on some recent teams I have put together .... :(

Soooo, how about:
Yogi Berra
Greg Luzinski
Reggie Smith
Earle Combs

:)

Actually, George Winter is my nomination in a hiiters park, very solid, great $3M value. He, along with a host of other $4M 4 day SPs such as Hutch, Munger, Gullickson, Works, Quinn, Gibson, Chalmers, Raymond, can provide a decent ERA in Polo. Credit SteveAmes, the master of the Polo 4 day staff ... 8)

Bang for Buck

I've had great luck with Don Drysdale as a 4th starter. I've had him go 22-11 and 22-10 in neutral parks. Gorman Thomas is awesome in a hitters park for the money. Felipe Alou produces everywhere. I've had real good production out of Al Kaline -- 21-96-.297 in one league. Jackie Robinson plays better than he costs. I've had Larry Doby do o.k., but I've had him tank, too. I think Agee is a better value. I've had Billy O'dell do really well . . . and really awful. For the money, I love Terry Pendleton. Coveleski and Key are good mid-salary starters. Don McMahon can be awesome for the $$ -- especially if you let Hal manage your bullpen.

I am surprised no one has mentioned Orlando Cepeda. He is one of my favorite second or third round live draft players. I have had O put up Lou Gehrig type numbers quite a few times. Lance Parrish at catcher is my second choice to catch if I cannot get Campy. He does everything Johnny Bench does and for less than half the price. How about Gil Mcdougald? If I can't get Gehringer at second I go after Gil. OBP is always near .400.
