Kevin McReynolds

Just curious as to why he always seems to be on the FA market to begin a season. I look at his card and see above average defense, 4 very good power seasons, pretty fair OBP for a power hitter, and 1 crappy season that should be relatively easy to pick up on. He is no world-beater, but I see other OF's and DH's on opening-day rosters who to me aren't as solid. Any feedback on what is good/not good about Kevin Mac, or what parks he seems to do better in?

Just to warn you, now! Don't let Voovits talk you into grabbing him. He is 3rd tier and there are better options.

Well, to give a specific example, I just picked him up preseason to play LF in Wrigley. Among the other options still available: Hendrick, Lezcano, Cruz, Dave Henderson, Downing, Valentine, Puhl, Lowenstein, Marshall and some more of the usual suspects. My lineup including McReynolds:

Lonnie Smith, DH
Whitaker 2B
Hrbek 1B
Gorman Thomas CF
Strawberry RF
Fisk C
McReynolds LF
Harrah 3B
Burleson SS

I had Dave Henderson, but I traded for Gorman to play CF, and once I started comparing Henderson and McReynolds in LF, I actually liked Kevin more. Am I crazy, or is one of the other options better? Thanks in advance.

If you're in a league with me, you won't find McReynolds on the waiver wire during the preseason.
He is one of the most underused/underrated players in the 80s game IMO, Let others fight for Raines and Rickey, that's fine with me because I always get McReynolds with my #25 pick in the autodraft, allowing me to bump up other players.

Regardless of the stadium you use, he usually underperforms a little in the batting average, but his power numbers are usually where you'd expect them to be.

He is a little overpriced, but I don't think his price is too inflated to make him not worth using.

I drop 85 and sometimes 90 McReynolds cards, and the 90 cards I keep are usually end up part of a platoon, so I don't have any full seasons from his 85 and 90 cards.
if you get one of the other 3 seasons, you could expect numbers within the range of the ones I posted.
