Best bullpen ever?

Mike Adams

I suppose it depends on your team makeup. In Petco Park I had a starting rotation of Lincecum, Sabbathia, Becket and Hamels.

My second team is also in Petco with a rotation of Vazquez, Sabbathia, Becket and Hamels. After 48 games I've managed 10 shutouts and only 5 saves. Adams has only managed 10 innings, which is again nearly half of my releif innings.

As for Adams' worth, I think it really depends on the team. He has zero BPHRs and BPSIs, so he'd be best in a hitter's park really. I think at such parks with average to below average starting pitchers you could put him in every relief role (except closer and mopup) and expect to get about 100-130 innings out him. Nearly seven million for that many innings is a ton, but if you are a good team, they could be really meaningful innings.

Bailey or Vargas might be better options as they are R2 relievers so they would pitch many more innings.

This bullpen finished 30-21-55 with a 2.34 ERA in 430 innings.

It kind of relates to the posts above about Mike Adams. In the above bullpen, I got 110 innings, a 12-2-3 record and a 2.05 ERA out of an R1 righty, Nick Masset, for 3.21 million. I don't think Adams would have done significantly better. (But Oakland is not really an optimal park for Adams, I admit)

[quote:3b395f942d="tcochran"]I don't know if anybody tracks bullpen performance, but this might be one of the best ones ever:

Nathan, Vargas, Oliver and company pitched 432 innings with a 1.02 WHIP and a 2.60 ERA

What are some other great 'pens out there?[/quote:3b395f942d] ERA's are way too high

Here's an old team I kinda forgot about:

This pen went 23-20-44 with a 2.20 ERA with a pretty significant number of innings. This was an RFK team, so that certainly helped, but it also had extremely poor defense which didn't help the pen much.
