One Game Per Night?

One Game Per Night?

Postby mbertolli » Wed Jun 16, 2010 2:26 pm

Is there any chance of a one game per night option to be added? It would provide managers with so much more control over our teams and greatly increase the enjoyment. Even if the cost was higher than a standard game it would be well worth it...

Any thoughts?

Mike.

I don't see how this would really be that much greater of a situation than the current one. You still wouldn't be able to control when to make batting and pitching changes, send runners, call for bunts, etc.

The next big step that needs to be taken is to make some sort of live-action interface so that managers could roll the dice and do everything else just like in the board game and CD versions of the game. Until that day comes, I think any other improvements would pale in comparison.

I disagree, I think it would make a huge differance from game to game.

Pitcher/Catcher batteries alone would make a big differance. Its almost impossible to take advanage of a starters poor hold rating when then other 2 starters that night are average or strong.

All of the stratagy and pitcher prefs could be adjusted on a nightly basis to take advantage of the opponants starting pitcher or defensive weakness.

I also would love to see a live version as well.

I don't see the one game per night thing happening simply because it seems like the way this thing is set up, there is no way for it tolerate a different schedule than the one it currently operates.

When there were problems with the website last year and they had to stop the game engine, they had to start it back up exactly one week later so everything would stay in sync.

Perhaps a completely different platform (e.g. real-time SOM games) could be supported, but unfortunately I don't think they can manipulate the way things currently run to adapt a "one game per night" format.

How about the ultimate crap shoot......one [u:62f8c05ff5]season[/u:62f8c05ff5] per night.

For those who love team building, you could see the results of your handiwork right away.

For those of us who are strat-challenged (but strat-addicted), it would put us out of our misery that much more quickly. :(

I like the 1 night idea. 24 team league at $5 a team. $120.00 in with 3 credits out. A plus $105 every week for TSN. I would do that as building the team is the most fun. Mike

I, too, have often wondered about this.

*Instant gratification for the A.D.D. generation.
*The junkies would be even more addicted.
*The newbs could learn the game on a budget.
*Those who currently find the game too cost-prohibitive would have an outlet.
*Theme leagues and other random craziness would be cheap.
*24 team leagues would thrive, because a bad draft would cost you less, so no reason not to pull the lever again.
*Leagues could run 3-5 days after the draft. Maybe then no waiting for Monday night/Tuesday morning to start.
*And we could actually finish a Tour before the next card set comes out. :P (but probably not!)

I don't see why you even need to charge five bucks. Heck, charge 99 cents (or the more marketing friendly $1.99). $24 in, $6 (3 credits) out. $18 net per league would buy a lot of three-in-one oil, duct tape and ball bearings for HAL.

I would have to believe [b:856b58cb60]Bernie[/b:856b58cb60] already considered all this at some point though. The downside would be the out and out cheapening of the overall product and the effect on the net-net. Plus, HAL can barely handle adding up the pitcher innings correctly, you gotta wonder what "Lightning Leagues" would do to the gaskets.

Still, it's fun to consider.

Thinking more about this, if I pay $25 for 60 days of entertainment, that's $2.40 per day. If Bernie charged $2.99 per Lightning League, they get an extra $0.59 per player for any added maintenance to HAL.

Admittedly, I am very much not a computer guy, so maybe all those squirrels running on conveyor belts inside of HAL would need additional acorns. Maybe it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. The very idea could eventually kill the 60 days of entertainment we currently enjoy though.

Hmmm. :?

I'm not much of a computer guy either nor a financial nerd (my banker can tell you much more about that), but I think for 60 days of entertainment, you're actually paying 42 cents per day. So pricing could be set accordingly.

Now, Jpav, if you'd just stop crushing my teams. My 42 cents (actually 21 because I play the half price games -- talk to my banker) is being spent on decidely masochistic pleasures.

ps those of you with sadistic tendencies might want to join the 2004 season (SOM 2005) that is halfway filled. Come on and beat me up. :D

LOL!

That's what happens when I do math at one in the morning! :D

You're right, it's actually an even better deal than I first thought! No wonder my wife does the budget - although I seem to remember golfing a lot more when I did the math.
