A 2 SS vs a 3

A 2 SS vs a 3

Postby elpasopesos » Thu Jun 24, 2010 10:45 am

How important is a 2 SS vs a 3? I am thinking about playing Ryan Theriot (3 e 17) vs Furcal (2e23) in the 2009 set to create a little salary space to pick up a much needed extra outfielder. They are almost identical offensively (actually Theriot has a better OB vs right and steals a little more). I would appreciate any feedback

Furcal by a wide margin

OPS adjusted by fielding rating:

Theriot .379 (actual .712)
Furcal .449 (actual .710)

that's .071 OPS better. Adding in Theriot's A stealing vs Furcal's C it's a little closer but not enough, .057 difference.

Can you tell us how you computed the adjusted OPS or is it a trade secret?

"Ancient Chinese Secret" ;-)

Any old timers remember the detergent that ad phrase is from???

Actually someone else did the heavy lifting on this, using the probabilities from the SADV X chart, combined with the standard # of X chances at each position based on pitcher card results. This basically gives you a factor that represents the "negative" affect that the fielding ratings has in terms of "fielding OPS".

From there, you will need to apply it against the offensive factors that you think are important.
