see "why 2K?" in 1999 league list

edit: It took 36 days to fill this league, with only 1 or 2 other leagues available in 1999 -- is the 1999 season (still new) a failure for SOM?

IMO, I think '99 was a bust for SOM. I'm not sure the reason, it was slow filling way before summer arrived, and way before '09 was launched.

If I was pressed I would say the economy, lack of advertising for this set and maybe a disenchantment toward the steroid era were key reasons why this set has struggled.

All of that is speculation of course. But, it has been a bust.

Jeep, I think all your reasons are very valid and I'll add one more, which I think is the biggest problem - its not long enough in our past. We already have every season since '01 available for play, so is '99 really that remarkably different from '01? I think any season pre-93 or so would have been more popular.

I'd be interested to know how much faster '86 leagues fill up relative to '99 leagues, if at all. It seems they do disappear quicker from the league list. I think its also noteworthy that even if I'm the first one in, I don't think I've ever sat in a 1969 league for more than a week. Point being 1969 has a strong core of players that 1999 just doesn't have.

I hope it doesn't prevent TSN/SOM from releasing more single seasons. I'll play whatever they release!

i think they should move 1986 and 1999 to the 12.50 range. Why play them at 24.99 when you can play 2001 - 2006 for 12.50. I think they would get played a ton more at 12.50. I also think 1969 should also go to 12.50.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with ggrover - although i have played the '69 season a bit (but not lately) and I am still playing the '99 season BUT was in this mentioned league, w2k? three times and dropped to join others and was STILL able to get back in!! $12.50 is plenty for all three & include the '07 and '08 games with them. JMO, for alot more PLAY,

Tom.

Call me odd, but I have no interest in playing 1999, in hindsight, because almost all of the great hitter's cards were byproducts of steroid use. It just seems so dirty . . .

Jeep, I disagree with that perception. When TSN has introduced 'old' seasons in the past (e.g., 1969, 1986), you get a bunch of people playing for a while and then the interest fades.

The fact that interest fades does not indicate failure, The lead product is always the latest season. When the new cards are released, managers want to use those cards and other seasons are quickly forgotten.

Was the 2008 season a "failure"? ...I mean, after all, nobody's playing it much since 2009 has been released.
