Plate appearances and injury factor

Some help on this one............what I've read here on the boards is that over 600 PA will allow for a maximum of 3 games out on an injury roll. But in a league I'm in, Mauer gets a 10 gamer. Wassup wid dat? He had 606 PA last year! And in "real life"......where'd his HR's go, at the same time?

Mauer comes up one short on the way SOM figures the number:

AB 523
BB 76

Total 599

So he can go down for 15 games. I guess the new park is not as good for hitting HR's or hitting most of the Twins numbers are down a bit from last year.

So, the key is "the way SOM figures the number". And the number doesn't equal plate appearances, because he had to HBP and 5 SF's last year. Key for me, because I've definitely valued some players higher with the over 600 "PA" in mind. I can understand the sac fly being dropped, maybe, but not HBP, since they're represented on the player's cards. Well...........glad Mauer's on a competitor's team, at least.

Logically perhaps HBPs should count, but practically they shouldn't. The present system allows you to tell at a glance if someone qualifies for the 600 (or 680) "PA" plateau. Otherwise, you would need an outside reference that tells you how many HBPs a batter has since SOM does not give you that info. (Yes, in Mauer's case you could simply see he [i:5ad6076877]has [/i:5ad6076877]a HBP chance, but that isn't as easy as simply adding AB+BB.)

In regards to his RL power and where it went, history tells us the question should be "how did it get there in 09?" He's been slightly better than punch and judy throughout his career. Not that that is a bad thing concerning him, it's just the facts.
