Help for a Newbie

Ok Joe. Now I feel like an idiot.

I'm reading this, and my understanding was that there WAS a deeper penalty for playing an outfielder out of position.

If I read this right:

[i:4893719ea0]1. If I decide to play a CF in RF or LF there is ZERO penalty?
2. A RF who I want to play CF loses a point on DEF, and ZERO penalty in LF
3. A LF who I want to play CF loses TWO points; and playing RF loses ONE point.[/i:4893719ea0]

My question is: In Sporting News SOM, we can't do this, can we? If a player is not designated for a position on his card,[b:4893719ea0] the dropdown will not let up choose another OF position.[/b:4893719ea0]

Doesn't this only apply to the board game? Or is there some workaround here at SN/SOM?

For instance, if your LF went down with an injury and you didn't have anyone else on your team that had LF on their player card as a position they could play, HAL would move a CF or RF over to LF with the penalties listed. The penalties refer to range only.

If a CF moved in to play SS and SS was not listed on the player card, then you are right that they would be a 5 range with a high error rate.

this can also be done in the CDROM version, i am in a play by internet league where mclouth is my starting RF yet he is only carded for cf.

I am setting up my pictcher rotation and have just learned that there are three games per game simulation day. Does the game consider that this is three games on three different "days" for the purposes of pitcher rest or does it consider it be three games on one actual day. If it is the latter I am going to run out of pitchers fast as I would have to have nine starters over the first three days of the season.

Every game is considered one day. They just play 3 games (3 days) in 1 night so that the season dosen't drag on for 162 days. Works out to just under 8 weeks with the season ending on a Friday and Post season starting on Monday. There is 2 days of rest being (1) Sat and (1) Sunday before the playoffs start. Ask away and we will help, just no Lotto winning numbers will be given out :lol: .

One more question: what lottery numbers will hit in Massachusetts this week? :) Acutally, I played SOM football for three seasons in 2001/2002 and did pretty well, winning something like 30 of 33 games. I gave up SOM after Sporting News discontinued football and have just come back into it. I remember one of the best things about SOM football was how helpful eveyone was to one another and that still seems to be the case. Thanks!

That's cool. I also played the online Strato Football. I was disappointed as well when they pulled the plug. There were some improvements they needed to make so they probably got a lot of complaints, etc. Perhaps that's why they stopped. If I recall, they played either one quarter or one half a night. I can't remember. It was fun to watch the game in progress.

Anyway, good luck with your baseball teams. And yes, the Strato regulars on here will happily help anyone. But then of course when you start racking up the winning season and championship rings.....we will regret everything we ever help you with. :wink: 8-)
