Since he just recently died, what memories do you have of Steinbrenner?

I was just remembering the crazy 1981 split season, when the Dodgers and Yankees ended up in the World Series. If my memory serves me correct, the Yanks won the first two games, then the Dodgers won the next four. During that WS, Steinbrenner messed up his hand. Rumor was that he slammed it in an elevator and the elevator won!!

My favorite Boss memory was in the spring of 1990. I was a young attorney, fresh out of law school, and working on a deal involving 5 banks to fund the lockout of MLB (the teams needed to have financing in place to cover the fixed costs they would start incurring if the lockout continued into the season, such as front office staff and stadium lease payments). At the closing, the general counsel of MLB (a HUGE Red Sox fan) gets a cell phone call and announces to the attorneys and businessmen gathered in the conference room "I just found out that that damn Steinbrenner just signed Pasqual Perez to a guaranteed five year contract!" I then replied "Well, somebody had to sign him." The general counsel of MLB was definitely not amused, and gave me a look to kill.

An arrogant, boastful, bully. Full of himself and concerned only with what's best for his team.

and . . . the first guy I would want to own my favorite team.
