What's the problem with Neftali ?

Postby jflatour99 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 10:53 pm

I'm wondering how come Neftali Feliz didn't perform very well in the Tropicana field 09:

Feliz, Neftali R R2/C1 6 3 4 6 126.0 118 78 72 56 180 26 5.14 1.38

He was my setup man for Bronxton in a 4 rp crew (Saito + Dotel).

Could it be a fatigue factor ? (pitching too often)

Here's the link to see my whole team which performed well :

The link is bad. Click on the league's standings page. Click your team's name from there and post that URL.

Salut JF,

Des fois, ça arrive avec les releveurs. Check-moé la performance de Hoffman, dans une autre ligue où je joue.

Hoffman: 8-8, 9 sv, 12 bs, era=5.45, whip=1.44, 21 hr in 104 ip.

Mais, depuis game 120, il est parfait 1-0, 5/5 sv, alors je ne pense pas que ce soit la fatigue.

Plain bad luck, I guess.

Bon, m'as finir en anglais, avant que les autres boys capotent  :

At least, it makes one thing clear: Hoffman is not one of those lucky relievers who has his card under statistical control (at least for homeruns).

Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't ignoring something about a fatigue rule (playin in x games in a row...)

Merci M-A !

well...the Trop favors LHH and Perez gives up a lot of BPHR's to LHH's

simple as that

a quick look at the stat page shows me that he has allowed 26 dingers in 126 IP...thats a HR every 4 2/3 IP..at that rate for a guy who is a R2 its easy to give up a dinger every other time out..or more!!!

Bernie said there was not such carry-on-over-the-season fatigue rule.

Of course, the rule about the penalty for a pitcher who comes into his third consecutive game still applies (which could happen if you force your pitcher in with the bullpen management).[/code]

The other thing about Feliz is that he has zero BP singles against righties and at Tropicana those are only 1-4. Versus lefties, he has the normal 5 BP singles chances which are 1-10.

So, based on that, he's not an optimal match for Tropicana and thus was probably overpriced for you. The HR chances aren't much help either. His performance could have been better, but it's probably not a ton worse than I would have expected.

I don't know what to say if that is all you expect out of a reliver that costs almost $5.00 and has a .68 WHIP and a 1.74 ERA. All the 1-4 single does is make it so his value is not optimized. He still should be at least pretty good regardless of whether or not his value is optimized and to post a 5.00+ ERA is pretty terrible.

Interesting point the BP singles... I'll look at that next time

Altough, I was expecting more of a guy like this, I figured he was one of the best deals for a quality setup man. Yeah the Tropicana advantage the lefties but there is worst than that, I was in a pitchers stadium.
