Out of Position Players

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Fri Aug 13, 2010 5:18 pm

That is not at all what the rule says. You never posted what 25.21 says, because it proves you are wrong!...The point is, and has always been Taveras, Crisp ,etc should be able to backup CF, and LF like they can in real life and like they can in the rules. Just look at 25.21, it says the exception is outfielders, playing a position not on their card! This is a rule in SOM, that does not exist in TSN. Read rule 25.21.

If you do not like me because of some previous debate or my politics or whatever, that is irrelevant to the facts of this debate. Call SOM.

Also ,why in the World would Taveras be a 5 in LF, here at TSN, when clearly the rule states otherwise. You people who believe Vootis have not read rule 25.21, and the reason he will not write what it says is because it proves he is wrong.

But I guess I am wrong, because I am seen as an Obama supporter???? Is that it?? Just read the rules! Please, rule 25.21 states clearly that CF can play LF or RF with no defensive penalty! It starts with , "The exception is......."

Marcus Wilby, Vootis and others, what does rule 25.21 say? Why won't you answer this question? I will tell you why because it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I am correct!

Just go to the SOM boards and ask ANY SOM vet? Please. And stop piling on based on some personality conflict, read the rules! All of them, do not stop where it makes you seem correct, that is selective editing. You did not post the whole rule.

If you do not own the rules, like I do, and you do not want to call SOM, how about asking real SOM vets of the SOM fans bulletin? Just google SOM fan bulletin and ask away. I would love to hear from someone other than Vootis who actually owns the rules , and does not selectively post them.

Nobody is piling on anything. Why are you getting so defensive?

I will copy/paste what I posted earlier.

Rule 25.2 says that you can not use a CF to play LF if you have a LF available on your roster.
Rule 25.21 tells you what to do if you have no LF available and you have to use a CF to play LF for the game.

That addresses rule 25.21

I am [b:06032f279d]not[/b:06032f279d] saying that you're not allowed to play Taveras in LF
I am [b:06032f279d]not[/b:06032f279d] saying Taveras should be a 5 if he played LF

I [b:06032f279d]am[/b:06032f279d] saying that if you have a LF available on your roster, he has to play in LF before you could use Taveras there.

That is not at all what rule 25.21 says....why are you so afraid to quote it word for word, like I did??? You paraphrased it and added your own words as if you own the game company.

And if this is not personal, why did you bring up Obama, and why did Schoongans,(whoever that is...) make personally disparaging remarks about me???

You paraphrased rule 25.21 because if you had quoted it word for word it proves you are wrong.

And even your paraphrasing proves you are wrong, because here at TSN Taveras is a 5 in LF when injuries occur. The whole point is; that is absurd, in real life, and in real SOM rules! He should be a 1 in all three outfield positions according to rule 25.21.

This whole thing is a personal smear campaign against me, (why I do not know, ???) otherwise you would have admitted to the truth a half dozen posts ago, and posted the whole rule.

I am sorry you do not like me but facts are facts and rules are rules.

You win I am out......

And to everyone else I appreciate the support. The bullies win again. Who cares about the facts or the rules, obviously no one here. It is a popularity contest, and this might as well be the 8th grade. I have a life outside of TSN SOM, also I have real friends and other leagues as well as the cards and dice and CD-ROM.

But none of this changes the rules or CD-ROM, does it? Until you buy the company I will be correct.

Here is the whole paragraph:

[quote:a3df07a594]
(25.0) Injuries / Players out of position

(25.1) Injuries may occur to any batter (including pinch-hitters), if the result of your dice roll includes the phrase, "plus injury." If you are using the DH rule, an injury occurs to the pitcher in the field when a white 6 and colored dice total of 12 (6-12) is rolled and the DH is at bat.

First, complete the play. Then roll the 20-sided die.

For Advanced play, refer to the INJURIES section of the Basic Strategy Chart to determine the duration of the injury.

For Super Advanced play, refer to the Super Advanced Injury Chart under the Super Advanced Miscellaneous Charts (on the reverse side of the Super Advanced Fielding Chart).

(25.2) Sometimes injuries will force a manager to use a substitute at an unfamiliar position. If there are no remaining players rated for a position, try to use a similar player there - an infielder in the infield, an outfielder in the outfield.

In most cases, the substitute at the unfamiliar position plays with the worst possible defensive ratings: A 5 range rating, the highest "e" rating for the position, a +5 throwing arm, and/or catcher "T" and "pb" ratings of 1-20.

(25.21) The exception is a rated outfielder playing another outfield position that is not listed on his card. In such cases, the outfielder's "e" rating and arm rating remain unchanged. And he does not automatically become a "5". Use the OUTFIELD FIELDING ADJUSTMENT chart on Page 15 to adjust his range rating.
When assigning a player who is rated at two outfield positions to play the third (for which he is not rated), base the new rating on the first outfield position listed on his card. For example, a player is LF-1, CF-3. If you needed to move him to RF, use LF as the basis, which would make him a RF-2.

rmilter, there is no reason to call me bully or anything. Voovits and coyote made me realized that I was thinking like you, and that I was wrong.

For me, the whole issue starts here, at 25.2:

[quote:4ea9186007]If there are no remaining players rated for a position, try to use a similar player there[/quote:4ea9186007]

IF there are no....IF-condition. Which implies: if there is someone that has a lf rating, you are not allow to use a cf there. It has to be a lf.

It continues:

[quote:4ea9186007]In most cases, the substitute at the unfamiliar position plays with the worst possible defensive ratings[/quote:4ea9186007]

Usually, the replacement player, if you are forced to use one, will have a very bad rating.

It goes on:

[quote:4ea9186007](25.21) The exception is a rated outfielder playing another outfield position that is not listed on his card. In such cases, the outfielder's "e" rating and arm rating remain unchanged[/quote:4ea9186007]

Which I interpret to mean: usually replacement players are really bad, but there is an exception to this rule, and it relates to outfielders. IN SUCH CASES, they don't have a very bad rating. They simply have the same e rating and arm rating, and their range is modified by the SOM charts.

I guess you never heard of sarcasm.

You were talking about how you know anything and everything about strat, and if I didn't believe you, I could ask Hal Richman.

In an effort to show some sarcasm and to prove a point about something, when I said just because I go over the speed limit hundreds of times (in response to you saying you play outfielders out of position hundreds of times) that it must be OK, and if you don't believe me to go ask Barak Obama.

Then remember that silliness about us not believing you if you said the sun rises in the east? Then there was my stupid reply about how everyone knows the sun rises in the west, and if you don't believe me to go ask God.

Richman = Head of SOM
Obama - Head of Country
God = Head of Everything

How in the world am I attacking you for being an Obama supporter when I didn't even know that in the first place. I have no issues with you or Mr. Obama. I was just employing a bit of sarcasm.

As far as Taveras being a 5 in LF here at TSN... you have no proof of that, but if that was the case, then TSN would be wrong.
The online game is a port form the CDROM game, so whatever he would be in the CDROM game is what he would be on this site.

I am through arguing the point though. It seems you just don't understand the point I'm trying to make, and quoting rule 25.21 is not going to make any difference. I have read it and re-read it many times during this debate, it doesn't change anything. I stand by what I say, and you're going to stand by what you say.

I think Marcus just explained the rules interpretation better than I was able to.

Good Job.
