Longoria or Zobrist?

Simple question:

Who would you rather have?

Zobrist. Fewer DPs, better defense, switch-hits, slightly better overall hitter with higher OBP. That overcomes the injury risk.

I assume you mean at 3rd? Langoria almost every time. Zobrist is a 4e21 at 3rd vs. a 1e14. Unless you are playing at Oakland or some other park that greatly favors leftys, I don't think Zobrist would even be on my radar. To get any value out of Zobrist, you have to play him at 2nd.

I did not make that assumption in my assessment. I assumed he meant Longoria at 3B vs. Zobrist at 2B since they are very similarly priced.

I'd go with Zobrist...based on his flexibility position-wise, as well as his switch-hitting. But if the question is who to use solely at 3b, then yeah, it would be Longoria.

AeroDave you are correct. My question was Longoria at 3B v. Zobrist at 2B. I guess the only reason for the question is because 3B is such a thin position and I was wondering if I made the deal would I not be able to cobble together a better 2B than Headley is as a 3B. I suspect I could but that the dropoff from Zobrist to Longoria is not worth it.

Thanks.

Longoria

I like Longoria better. He's a 1. He isn't a swith hitter, but he is an E and not 2L. For a starter, I really don't care if he can't play multiple positions.

And he must have just had a big series because after 66 games, he is finally hitting over .200 for me! (.207/.244 OBP)

Zobrist out 15 games!

Zobrist is out for 15 more games. Can I afford to hold onto him? My alternatives at 2B are not pretty -- Fontenot. However, the free agent pool lacks impact bats.

I am barely above .500 and cannot afford to slip too far behind in the playoff race.

I could cut Hanson or Harden for a Burnett and free up some cash to pick up a decent 2B or I could dump Coghlan, DH Weeks (who is bound to get hurt) and try to find a 2B that way. Haircut is currently 10%.

Moving McCutchen could also free up some cash.

Thanks,
