Brett or Foxx?

Brett or Foxx?

Postby gamiam » Fri Mar 24, 2006 9:43 am

I tried to build a bomber team, but came up with the #1 waiver pick...I almost recovered, but not quite so I need every edge I can find. I'm in Fenway 67, there is a Stick and 2 Dunns in my division. It looks like maybe 8 of 13 Sp will be lefthanded, so I'm thinking of dropping Brett for Foxx at 3B. Comments? Suggestions? Cruel Jokes at my expense??

I'm in the league with you but will be glad to offer you the following suggestions:

#1 - Get down to 10 pitchers and 13 hitters, you need quality not quantity. Dump Belardi for sure and probably Bevaqua (since you have Salmon).

#2 - Either go with a 5 man rotation or a 4 man rotation, not both. Personally, I'd go with a 5 man cheapie rotation and beef up the pen [u:edc258c2b9][b:edc258c2b9]DRAMATICALLY[/b:edc258c2b9][/u:edc258c2b9] ... FRYMAN, Nelson, KLINGER, Harris, Lamp, Patterson, RIDDLE, Stewart & BERNARD are all options. Options for your rotation include: Coffman, Carlson, Drucke, Phillips, Knowles.

#3 - With that many LHP's in your division, Brett will struggle. Foxx may make more sense.

#4 - Foxx and Hornsby would both look great on your team. Dump McGwire and Gordon and Brett??? Pick up Rosen for 3B???

I hope this helps a little bit.

Another option is to try and get some LHP killers - Valentine, Ennis, Clemente, etc to use with Brett. Bat them behind him and watch him score a ton of runs - cuz he'll hit LHP, just not for HR. Get him on base and let the other guys beat up on the LHP.

Though Hornsby and Foxx would look nice in a lineup - but I've never been able to get Foxx to hit his card. Good luck.

Belardi can be a very useful pinch hitter in Fenway '67. If there is no DH, then you can be sure to have lots of pitching changes and pinch hit opportunities.

I'd like the idea of keeping Brett and adding a righty bat to protect him. With two Dunns and a Fenway, he'll be quite effective in your division, regardless of any strong lefty presence.

If Cleon Jones is available at all, get him. He would complement Speaker perfectly at the top of the lineup.

I bet you can free up some cash by downgrading McGwire, but you will need a righty bat somewhere.

well, I do like Jones, but I think Covington is a better value in Fenway. I have used Hornsby 3 times and he has been a HUGE disappointment for me. What do y'all think about trying to use Belardi in a platoon with a lefty-crusher and a bu against RHP like Joe Collins?
