Come with us Back to the '90s, when beasts like [b:b3b74f6672]Mike Piazza[/b:b3b74f6672] and [b:b3b74f6672]Mark McGwire[/b:b3b74f6672] roamed the earth, doing battle with fearsome foes like [b:b3b74f6672]Pedro Martinez[/b:b3b74f6672] and [b:b3b74f6672]Kevin Brown[/b:b3b74f6672].

This is the first set in the [b:b3b74f6672]Mystery Card format[/b:b3b74f6672] since The '70s Game, and the first Mystery Card set on the central SOM Online umbrella site. Being on the central site brings many game enhancements to Mystery Card fans for the first time, including Bullpen v2, Live Drafts, and 24-team leagues!

For the uninitiated, the Mystery Card format is an innovation in simulation baseball that opens up new spectrums of strategy and analysis. In a Mystery Card league, for each player you have on your team, you get one card out of his 5 possible pre-selected years... but you never find out which one. Learn more about the Mystery Card.

Notes:

- Here's the handy Excel file with all the players with their stats and salaries. Note that that the first set of 2 worksheets has each hitter and pitcher's averaged stat line, and there's a second set of 2 worksheets that includes every possible year.

- You can immediately use your available "universal" SOM team credits to play, and even switch an existing undrafted team to Btt90s with ease. The item you want to purchase (or claim as a prize from a Finals team) is labeled "Strat-O-Matic Baseball Online: ATG, 2007-2009, 1999, 1986, Btt90s".

- Live Drafts for this set are available effective immediately!

- As I previously indicated: instead of creating yet another sub-forum for Btt90s discussion, we're going to merge the '70s, '80s and '90s into one "Mystery Card / decade" forum.

Thanks! HAVE FUN!
Bernie H.

Thank you Bernie. But how can Brady Anderson 50 HRs season be left out, Paul O'neil and Jeff Bagwells 1994 seasons be left out? Also some of the fielding ratings look perculiar? I know, nothing like complaining as soon as it comes out. Someone has to start.

I was a little surprised at the omission of Reggie Sanders' '95 season. But really - how can a retrospective of the 90's not contain controversy! Good luck guys!

Yeah... we had only limited input into the selection process. But we did do as much honing as we could, and overall I'm happy with the job SOM did in hand-picking all those cards. And I know it's hard for some to understand, but there are always plenty of factors that go into these kinds of decisions.

That said, I totally would've liked to see some of those cards in the game too.

i don't mean to naysay anything, so hope you don't take it that way. But after reading your post, I'm intrigued . . . it sounds like quite a process to select cards! Well, thank you again for the 90's . . . still looking forward to trying it out but trying hard to be patient so I don't make a team and end up unhappy because I can't be at a computer come waiver time.

ok...my beef

if this is a 90's game then why so many season from the 80's/200x?

these guys all had 8-10 cards from the 90's from which to choose...if they didn't...they shouldn't be there

Why is an [b:d02f4cd821]87/88/89[/b:d02f4cd821] Dave Stieb or a [b:d02f4cd821]2000/001/004[/b:d02f4cd821]!!!! B. Giles in the set!!!

just saying

My only complaint is that it's a Mystery Card set. Hate the format personally. I was reallty hoping that this wouldn't be a mystery card set as '90's Strat is when I started playing in a FTF league and was hoping to recreate that team...

Bonds
Galarraga
Camintti
Jordan
B Williams
B McCrae
Lansing
Ordonez...

Oh well, I know there are others who love the format so a good day for them.

I do hope that perhaps the 70's 80's and 90's games could one day be released as a "best of" format using the best cards from those era's in a standard type league, those I'd play.

Kevin McReynolds got shafted. =(

Other players had some of their good seasons used from the 80s, why not him too???

It'll be interesting to play mystery card with closer rules in place. It adds another element of strategy.

Can't wait to start playing!
