meh, doesn't seem that crazy to me. If Wright was facing a left handed pitcher I would have held Pence, but in this case, not that horrible to send him.

If he had been safe at home we wouldn't even be hearing about this issue.

As I said it didn't matter in the outcome of the game, I was just wondering what happend, because the box score info is a little vague.

I checked the results and what ahppened must be just what was said: Pence tried to stretch a sure triple into a HR and was thrown out at the plate. It wasn't a rare play as no fielding check was required. I was confused because the split # indicated a a fly ball to LF so I assumed that the triple and therefore the throwing check should have been the LF as well instead of the CF as indicated. ( Just one more reson to keep a minus arm in CF)

Guess I need to set my running for extra conservative to stop this sort of thing cause even at a 70% chance I would not have sent him from 3rd with only 1 out.

Thanks for the help guys.

Bill - I have found HAL to actually be very smart on these plays, for the most part. If there was a 70% chance of success, with 1 out it was not a bad play. You need to check with someone like MW for the higher math, but I believe 70% in that case is roughly even money to either score on that play or score later. Also, would be interesting to see the fielder's E rating, sometimes that can really impact the odds on a play like that.
