[quote:32f6a8aacd="BobBoone"]Perhaps in a future incarnation of this league we could mix things up a bit! Here is my thoughts. What you bid is what you pay! What is different about that?, you are thinking. The difference is, you pay what you bid even though you didn't win the player!

Think about this. I bid 12 mil on Mantle, Hackra bids 13 mil and wins. Now Hackra brings out Mays thinking that he will open at 10 mil, to get some money spent. He now pays that 10 mil. Obviously we would need maybe 500mil or more for bidding money, and still could not exceed 200 mil for our teams. What makes this new format interesting is that none of us know what to expect.

It would be so tough to decide how much to bid on a player. If, say, Speaker comes out and I think that he will go for 22mil, and decide to bid that, now someone (probably DHowser), bids 23mil, I have just lost 22mil with nothing to show for it! It should still all even out by drafts end. We could have the strat price be the minimum allowed so you know that you are required to bid on 300 players times there strat price, and we would all be in the same boat.

We may each need 1 billion to spend, I am not sure.

Not sure the point in that. Not realistic at all.
I wonder if we were to tweak it a little, like so:
Player is nominated with a min bid. This is effectively the ante.
You can fold, or you can submit a bid. You will pay the ante, win or lose. It's the price of submitting a bid. The winner spends the bid and nominates someone new.

I can't say I like this idea (too difficult to follow in my opinion)...I like PKB's idea a tad better. Still, I would prefer a simpler twist...say we pick our stadium first as well as divisions...then auction knowing who we will need to battle it out with for that "lefty killer, Small ball guy, Pitching ace". Another thought would be to require a 28 man squad (get more greats for your $80). Even better, I would be good for an open bidding auction if ATG6 or 5.1 comes out (it helps me stretch out the enjoyment of my $25).
