90s Season, Maddux 28 WINS, McGwire 83 HR

I had a dilemma playing in my 1st 90s game. I crave power hitting, but Greg Maddux is my favorite player of all time. So, I decided to go to Coors Field to satisfy my homer hunger, and entered a $100 million league so I could afford Greg Maddux's $9 million plus salary.

Maddux starting out shaky, 5-5 with 5.4 ERA but I kept him and he rewarded me with 28 wins. I pciked up his brother, Mike in the middle of the season and he added another 7 wins out of the bull pen.

I had McGwire's 66 HR season, and he rewarded me with 83 homers. I speculate that I have Maddux's 1994 season.

I don't know how this team will fare in the playoffs, but this season was alot of fun and the power surge of 426 homers was nice. I was the only team in Coors.

My first league looks less powerful than the 70's and 80's. We are only 141 games in but here is what we have:

Team hitting - .257 avg., .330 obp, and .413 slug
Team pitching - 4.31 ERA and 1.39 whip
Team homers - 219 is the leader! (no Coors Field's), I'm third with 176
Ind. homers - McGwire 60, nobody else more than 46
Ind. pitching - Schmidt 2.54 ERA and Maddux 2.92 with a 16-15 record

I expect this will be on the low side of runs scored. Certainly surprised me.

Team Pitching - 4.71 ERA, 1.46 WHIP
Team Homers - 295 (mine) in the Skydome
League Total Homers - 2574 (2 Coors Fields in the league)
Ind Homers - McGuire 86HRS, 2nd Canseco 64 HRS
Ind Pitching - Maddux 19-17 2.62 ERA, 1.07 WHIP
2nd Ind Pitching - R Johnson 18-14 2.69 ERA, 1.09 WHIP

123 games into the season in a very competitive league. All 3 divisions are still up for grabs, and nobody is safe for a playoff spot yet.

League batting average is .267 and league ERA is 4.81.
It's a little higher than the 70s and 80s I believe, but I was actually expecting worse. There is only 1 Coors field team in the league.

After a 12-0 start, my first team has been a disaster. We are now like 9 games under .500 and out of the playoff race. Have a team ERA over 6.00 and have gone through more players than any previous team. Fortunately my 2nd team hasn't folded like this one.

I think the 90s is hard to play especially at $80 million. You love sluggers, so finding cheap respectable starters is difficult. It seems that starting pitchers aren't showing many clues until they have pitched at least 50 innings. It is also harder to detect injuries with less variety. I picked up 3 sluggers off free agency that were dropped in their 1.000plus OPS years.

My first round of playoffs was interesting with the match going five. Greg Maddux, my only respectable pitcher went 2-0, 2 complete games, ERA 1.00, WHIP .73 at COORS FIELD, so maybe good pitchers can dominate in any stadium. Unfortunately for the Finals, he sits at game 3 and game 7 while my cheap riftraft needs to win a couple for me to have a chance.

Jen, Let me know when you start another 90s league. My goal is to make the playoffs every single time to edge Panzer Ace's .900 plus numbers. :lol:

I was very pleased this morning to see that this team did indeed win a 90s title for me sweeping 4 straight in the Finals against a good pitching team.

In Game 4 of the Finals, this team hit 8 homers and scored 17 runs on the road at Jacobs Field.

Greg Maddux went 3-0 in the playoffs. Mike Maddux saved his 3rd victory.

This team finished 1.000, perfect in stolen bases, with the fastest starting player a "D". (Mondesi (A) was on the bench)

This may have been my best hitting team of all time. It will be hard to surpass this kind of offense. I was the only Coors Field manager.

I am looking forward to my next league, hoping to get Panzer Ace statistics over the course of the next few years! 8-)
