The SOM cards are designed for the season which they were produced. The cards are normalized to that season. So of you play with just the 82 card set they player do (within reason) play to theire cards.

The problem here is the are lifted our of their season and put into some mystery bizzaro world where most team have good hitting and good pitching. At least better than a team would have in real life. Also in the Myster card format teams tend to get better over the course of the season because bad cards are dropped and replaced with better.

The game is about winning. I don't know who said it, but someone said "stats are for losers". If your winning and your RS is better than RA then your team is good.

It is fun to see guys put up numbers, but I'd rather put up wins

Wow Jeff, I had never thought of it from that point. You are exactly right. The 1977 Eddie Murray card was normalized against the 1977 pitchers, and vice-versa. I'm starting to understand why my record is so far below .500. I'm being out-thunk (thinked?) by everyone else.

There is a big problem with that theory. Everybody has players on their roster that had good stats so your team is no different than the others in that respect.

Also some people think that since they know baseball and all the strategies etc, etc that they just buy a team and start winning championships. The problem with that think is the same as before. We all are very knowledgeable about baseball and think the same thing.

You win in the mystery game by managing your team well in both strategy and personel. You got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them to borrow a phrase from Kenny Rogers (the singer, not the pitcher). Getting lucky on some key players doesn't hurt either. :wink:

Anyway pyramid, we are not trying to put you down. Sorry you don't like the mystery games. Good Luck to you when you move on to greener pastures more to your liking.

Pyramid is a good manager in this game, who is seemingly going through a frustrating phase. I've gone through it before, so I know how he feels from that angle.
Hopefully things turn around for you and you'll enjoy the game again like you used to.

This explains a lot. I've been able to tell that I am easily one of the most intelligent people in these forums, but unfortunately that doesn't always translate to wins and losses.

So, I would want pitchers from years where the league averages are lower and hitters from years where the league averages are higher????

Considering dipping my to into ATG and this would probably help...
