I dont think there is a 125 cap. I thought the 140 cap and we would have to make sure we had to leave 15 mio in excess cash.

That's my understanding as well.

Quick clarification before we start filling out our draft cards-- after the draft, how do we handle players who are carded to other teams, but not drafted? I understand that if a player is carded to 2+ teams (such as McGwire), each of the carded teams can list him on their draft lists. But what about the situation where one team has the only card for that player, but chooses not to draft them-- can other eligible teams claim him after the draft as a free agent? Or can they only acquire his rights by trade-- even if he's not on the original team's roster?

By way of example: Cardinals have exlusive rights to both Jim Edmonds and Willie McGee. I'm probably going to use Edmonds as my regular CF. If I don't put McGee on my draft card (as I don't want a $6.5 million backup), can the Giants/ A's/ Red Sox sign him as a free agent? Or would we have to negotiate a trade for a player who is eligible for the Cardinals beforehand -- even though McGee wouldn't be on my active roster?

Whatever we decide, we should clarify this process before everyone fills out their draft cards.

Frank will confirm, but it's my understanding that you can either work out a deal with another team for a player or leave him out on the FA list.

Only teams that are eligible can use that player.

Which leads me to 2 players:

Nomar and McGee.

If the Red Sox are going to use Petro @ SS, let's talk about Nomar for my A's.

If the Cards are using Edmonds, let's talk about McGee.

I'm as confused as everyone else, probably. SO, I have the Giants. No one drafted the Pirates. Does that mean Barry Bonds is mine, no sweat? Or do I have to worry about losing him in the AD?

Bonds is yours...no sweat.

Nomar played for the Sox/A's and Dodgers. He's carded ONLY for the Sox. If the Sox want him, so be it.

If they don't, since he's carded ONLY for the SOX, he's a FA. And the A's/LAD cannot put him on their draft card.
