Reflections on my finished team

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Thu Dec 30, 2010 1:19 am

Now that my team is finished, I am looking at how I think I did.
I went for a similar type of team as I had in the last league where I am doing well, but not dominating. So I will compare this team (which will be called Babylon 6) with my team that is currently playing. The theme of both is great hitting, average defense, cheap starters, and a killer bullpen.

I realize that as I compare, since the player pool is stronger in ATG6, that my team will have to be stronger just to have the same kind of results.

Hitting - I have the same 1B, 2B, and SS as last time, I have improved a little at 3B and DH (Foxx and Thomas over Beckwith and Wilson) although Beckwith and Wilson have hit so well for me (287 RBI's between them), I can't imagine Foxx and Thomas being too much better.
I have a real improvement at catcher, Gibson over Johnson (whose my backup in the new league.) Besides just offense, Gibson will be much harder to steal on, a weakness of my current club.
In the outfield I platoon, against lefties, I gave up a little power, and some OBP for a marked defensive improvement. Against righties, I lost a lot of defense, and some average, but gained some OBP, and a significant amount of power. I bet my HR numbers jump from 5th to 2nd or 3rd.
My bench is a little better, rather than wasting a pick on Evans this time, I got Heavy Johnson to back up C and in the OF.
Overall I think my offense improved about as much as the player pool, maybe a touch more.
My starters are just a touch better, mostly because I have the best #1 starter I have had in any of our 4 auctions (Cicotte) But I think my startres did not improve as much as the player pool. so I think I will be comparatively a little weaker.
The relievers improved drasticly, but my bullpen may have improved even more, I have two of the top 3 relievers, and some great LH specialists, and I think my bullpen should have a banner year, although on my current team, my bullpen has seriously underperformed.
But who knows if any of this will be true, Maybe Phillipe will win the Cy Young award, it's the mystery that makes baseball great.

Oh, and I am in the same division as Rick (Hackra) which is always a reason for concern.

Thanks for the kudos, (my 68-67 team is getting much more respect than they deserve although they are very happy to be above .500 for the moment).

I will say that I am looking at your relief pitching and their prospective numbers are absolutely sickening (speaking as an opposing manager with only Barney Schultz in the pen at the moment). You point to Cicotte as your ace, but I would not be surprised at all if Hershiser ends up the top dog with that kind of relief support. (Did you notice how the only way a LH batter will get on base on a pitcher roll vs Franco is if you put crappy defenders in the field behind him  ).

This time around I decided to spend nearly 1/4 of my budget on Babe for his winning vibe. Hopefully this version of the Bambino all-stars can earn some of that respect.

Another update

Postby hackra » Thu Dec 30, 2010 2:56 am

Current situation:

[b:95bd32ac75]Hitters:[/b:95bd32ac75]
Tom Haller 0.62 PotKettleBlack
Nellie Fox 1.00 hackra
Harmon Killebrew 0.74 ironwill1

[b:95bd32ac75]Pitchers:[/b:95bd32ac75]
Rick Honeycutt 0.56 hackra
need one from carr20 (bid will be 1.60) as a slide pick from jet40...unless he wants Honeycutt for 1.60

litangel and jet40 are automatic passes on all pitchers
hackra is an automatic pass on starting pitchers
carr20 and litangel still are automatic passes on all hitters (hitting roster full)
DOHowser is also an autopass on all hitters and pitchers nominated by someone else due to inadequate funds

8-)

Lolich

With the bids that are in, automatic passes, and budget issues, just need

Danielz to complete Lolich
