SP's in Wrigley

Just wanting some opinions on who the best starters for Wrigley Field are in the 2009 set. Thanks.

I don't know if I could offer up specific starters. I think a $2, $3, and $4M rotation, a couple strong R2 and R3 relievers, and a ton of hitting would usually spell success in Wrigley.

I agree with ehlekev. I tried to go with a high $ starting pitcher rotation at Wrigley, but my hitting missed having the $ allocated to it. The problem with having a high $ starting pitcher at Wrigley is that there is no equivalent to the N/W system on the batting cards re: the quality or power control of the pitcher. A pitcher who in real life has great pitch placement, and rarely gives up homeruns, can still get lit up for lots of homeruns if he faces good batters in a HR park. So next time around, I would do what ehlekev says!

One more thing - there is another debate you can have - is it better to have a low WHIP rating or low homeruns - or which is more important.

My thinking is that you may be best off getting pitchers who give up quite a few doubles, but fewer walks and fewer homeruns. Giving up singles is OK. Doubles may be relatively less valuable in a homerun park than they might be, say, in a park like Kauffman. Ballpark homeruns and walks should be avoided.

It may be obvious, but I am in the mood to type at the moment!

Hey thanks elpasopeso! Interesting! Could you tell us more? Who were some of the other players on your team? What were the ERA's for the 4 starters and the key relief pitchers? I will look up the cards for those pitchers, and see how well they fit with my comments - or not! Without looking it up, I think that billingley might be an exception to my comments since he gives up more walks, but the other 3 pitchers fit with my comments I think.

Marquis for sure. Try Kevin Correia, he keeps the ball in the park.

dont forget a strong armed catcher to keep all those baserunners at first to set up DP's..it keeps homeruns to solo shots instead of 2 and 3 run bombs. try barrajas as a platoon catcher or as dh vs lhp. hes cheap, good arm and can hit some hrs in wrigley.

roenicke and okijima as ur lefty and righty specialists.
