New Two-Team Tourney - '69/'70's

Postby pwootten » Fri Jan 07, 2011 6:20 pm

Here's one that will be of interest to those folks who love the draft as much as the season. A two-team theme league using the 1969 and 1970's sets. It's a bit tricky, so read carefully.

- 26-round draft using the 1969 card set on somdraft.com. Yeah, it will take awhile, so plan on being patient. If you've never used somdraft before, don't worry. We will help you. Draft order by randomizer.
- Draft is 25 players and a unique stadium. Same stadium in both leagues.
- Only players who are carded in the 1969 and 1970's sets are eligible to be drafted. Note: [b:b0383ea4e1]There are only 120 pitchers in both sets![/b:b0383ea4e1] Once you draft them, they are yours. There's no flexibility with pitchers unless you trade.
- When you draft a player in the 1969 set you also get him in the 70's.
- You cannot cut, trade, or pick up a player in one set without doing the same in the other set.
- No DH - $80M - 5/10/20 waivers.

The challenge in drafting will be to set up a pitching staff. Some guys, like Wilbur Wood are pure relievers in 1969 and starters in the 70's. It will require attention to figure it out. If a manager messes up they will be responsible for making trades to fix things.

It is my hope to be done drafting and ready to start playing by the first of February, just as some guys are wrapping up a 3-team Yankee tourney.

Please: only people who are willing to proxy and check in regularly should sign up. I also prefer managers who are willing to send a cell number so we can keep you updated via text messages if you have to be away.

Sign up and get ready for a fun tourney requiring a lot of planning and thought.

After the draft, what happens? Do we set up both a 69 team and a 70s team? From the rules, I guess that the only eligible free agents are the players that are available in both sets - correct? For example, in the 70s, can you pick up Mike Schmidt as a free agent?

Only players who are carded in both sets are eligible, so no Schmidt. There are plenty of hitters. Your rosters will be mirror images of each other.

Thanks for putting this league together. It highlights the players from the early 70s which is my favorite era in baseball.

Will there be limits on the types of pitchers we can draft? Will there be enough relievers in the 70s that are carded in the 69 game?

Here's the rundown for 120 pitchers:

1969: 30 Pure Starters, 55 Starter/Reliever, 35 Pure Relievers.
1970's: 51 Pure Starters, 25 Starter/Reliever, 44 Pure Relievers.

bump.

Great players from that era. Clemente, McCovey, Bench, Stargell, Aaron, Gibson, Seaver, Palmer, Dick Allen, Carew, Frank and Brooks Robinson, Reggie . . . All of them hall-of-famers (except Allen)

Sign up and let's get this league going!
