AL Only Keeper League (Done Here Check The ILC)

Postby gbrookes » Sun Feb 06, 2011 3:30 pm

If we do an NL keeper league, I would be interested in that league as well. I hope that we have the NL be no-DH. There is a traditionalist part of me that really likes the NL and its no DH format. It also adds a different dimension to the game in several ways!

If you guys have trouble filling out the list I'll join, but I'm a bit concerned about what's on my plate over the next couple of weeks and don't want to over-commit.

Hey Rant, if it helps, the drafting format Page2 uses makes things very easy to manage. You have assigned 1/2 hour slots each day when your picks will be up, so there's no having to keep checking to see if your turn is up, Page2 sends out the order each day and things move very quickly...it's very rare that people even get skipped.

I'll throw this out for thought. I don't think we want a team getting decimated if they should lose one or two high salaried players to the NL.

In real baseball they do get compensated- trade or whatever. If we had something in place that, let's say in the year you lose someone (over 4 mil, for example) there could be some compensation. Maybe something like a pick in the free agent market- maybe a mid-range pick, number 7 for example for any player lost with a salary over 4 mil or 5 mil or whatever.

Ties could be broken by record. Just a thought.

Terry, I like your idea. Not full compensation, but partial. That would be realistic. Commish?

We may want to consider Terry's suggestion AFTER our 2nd season. Going into the initial draft we KNOW which 2009 players will not be in the AL for the 2010 season (and know some who will switch for 2011). This makes for interesting drafting decisions (do I take Bay or pass on him if there's no compensation?)

Roughly 25% of the top 300 AL players in 2009 did not play in the AL in 2010. So, replacement will be a challenge every year. The problem is much less for the high priced players. Five of 28 pitchers and 3 of 59 hitters with a $4.0+ salary for 2009 we not back in 2010.

Seems like this could get messy. Do we allow compensation if they switch leagues, but not if they are out with an injury? What if they move to the NL and have a terrible season?

Hi Guys,

I would prefer to stick with the rules as posted. The AL has the big spending teams and there will be players coming into each year that were not there before like A-Gon.
