Help....

Help....

Postby dalekeener » Thu Feb 10, 2011 5:26 pm

My team is fading fast and now would be the time to make any changes (95%) replacement. I thought I had the right mix...but I am getting killed...any suggestions would be helpful.......maybe it is just one of those seasons...

You've already shed over $2.5M in salary through drops. I've played in a few leagues with you before and that seems to be your MO and then you lose 100 games or so every time. Have you played in any leagues where you just pick at team and let it ride the whole season?

11-19 is really not that awful. It's so early in the season and you've already compromised your team somewhat. Why not just stick with the guys and see how it goes? That in itself will be an experiment for you.

It's obvious that your current strategy of constantly swapping out players is not successful. It is almost universally agreed by SOM veterans to avoid dropping players outright at all costs.

Good point....I have another team in another league that I am doing just that...no dropping at all. Want to see how that goes....your right I need to draft a team and let it ride.

I've noticed you played in the Players Championship League and you also dropped many of your players with little success.

Event 1 dropped $14M record was 75 - 87
Event 2 dropped $13.6M record was 66 - 96
Event 3 dropped $42M record was 56 - 106

Not only does this show dumping players doesn't work but it gives other teams in your division an unfair advantage.

I saw the same pattern with even more disastrous results:

NO DH Rules League: Dropped $35.93M and record was 59-103

Warm Nuts 2010 League: Dropped $40.94M and record was 55-107

Aerodave is correct... the best thing to do is pick a team and ride it out. In season changes when you shed salary are a bad bad a deal. If your cards get off to a rough start just be thankful the season is 162 games, its the wonderful thing about baseball.

-David Price is a horrible fit for a hitters park and he provides no value if you have 4 *sp.
-3 catchers is a bad idea and its basically throwing away money.
-You've got 3 everyday players who are liabilities when a southpaw is on the hill.

The good news is you have awesome players. Just hope Big Albert, Utley and Tulo have monster years and you don't see many lefties.

Good luck

If you are in the race before game 142 and you need some help put Pujols on the table and take the best trade offered. He will give you help at 2 or 3 spots for the final push. Someone will think he is the way to the promise land and give you a SP and bigtime hitter + what you want for what you don't want any longer.
Never drop players right off the bat unless you are in a mystery league and you know the card you have. Always look for a trade athough it is really hard in this league.
Watch the players that win and look over thier teams and you can learn much I did.
This board has many vets that want new blood to win and stay in the game. You can always get help here and during the season from the ones that post here all the time, even if you are playing against them in the same division. This is math and numbers set by stats and it is loved by this bunch that is for sure. Oh that and Baseball that has nothing to do with numbers and stats.

Dale, I recommend also that you try a mystery card league. Like the above posters, I believe you pick a team and stick with it. However, in a mystery card league you need to make changes to be successful.

I agree with what was posted above try and make a deal before any drops are made. I will only drop a player if I have exhausted all other options and no trades are available. My latest team I made a few drops and luckily worked out for the best and really turned my team around, but i believe that dropping significant salary will kill the competitive edge your team had going into the season.
