MAJOR flaw in advanced pitching settings

MAJOR flaw in advanced pitching settings

Postby MEAT » Wed Mar 16, 2011 12:12 am

anyone else notice that besides the annoying fact that starters only pitchers don't get an avoid setting on the full staff pitching chart, that if you go in and set in individually on his card, the engine automatically erases your settings on the team chart. Ive found this out the hard way when I wonder how guys get left in too long only to check back and see the do not remove before number which was set at 7 or 8 to get him out in a hurry, is suddenly blank!
currently im trying to set rickey romero for do not remove before reaching 8, but if I go in and set avoid lhb for this reverse lhp, it erases the 8 and he'd stay in forever.

either the team pitching chart setting has to have avoid lh and rhb included for ALL pitchers, not JUST relievers, or remove the overide that when I set a pitcher individually, it doesn't automatically wipe out anything that was set on the team pitchers setting chart.

meat-

I believe that avoid lefty or righty batters only works for relievers. It doesn't work for starters. The reason is Hal would pull your starter early in the game.

I am not 100% certain of this. Maybe another vet might know.

Meat, look at the bright side. It's one less setting that HAL can ignore. I think a lot of these setting are just window dressing to make us feel like we have control.
It's kind of like those "Walk" buttons you can push at intersections. Those buttons aren't really attached to any device. It just gives you the illusion you have some control in the situation. The traffic lights do what they want anyway.

To concur what was said above, Avoid lefty or righty batters does NOT work for starters.

thanks for the input, although odd that the avoid is available on individual starter only card setting, and has always been there before team pitching chart option came in. I found, possibly erroneously, that amongst my shakiest starters, if I checked both avoid his trouble side, lhb or rhb, AND quick hook, HAL was more likely to get him out of there.

the issue that's the bigger problem, to me, is that if you go in and set a pitcher, starter OR reliever, individually...the pitching chart wipes out his don't remove before 8,7,6,5, etc, and changes it to blank.
if you don't catch this, or realize this, he'll stay in until game is way out of hand.
ive found this out the hard way...looking at box score, wondering how a guy I had set at 8 or 7 stayed in to get clocked, only to check back and see his dont remove before box had gone blank!

There is a logical reason that the avoid L/R setting is prevented for starting pitchers. What kind of fit would you throw if you started a LH pitcher and marked him avoid RH batters and in the first inning my RH cleanup hitter came to the plate and HAL pulled your pitcher?

you ever known HAL to remove anyone no matter what they're marked in a timely fashion. last post said the bigger issue is no co-ordination between individual card settings and team pitching chart. if you reset a RELIEVER, either to 1-2 innings instead of 3-4, or don't bring in before, or intentionally walk less, or avoid, or quick...the chart resets the dont relieve before reaching 8,7,6,5,4 to blank, and if you;re not aware or check it, he'll stay in forever no matter what your other checks are.

also, if its pointless on a starters only card, why is it ON there including the new 2010 set?! my experience is a good lh starter with avoid rhb checked will come out a little quicker in a sticky situation later in the game.
if I get rid of the slow hook on maddux, but don't touch anything else, including his "dont relieve B4 reaching" at 4...the engine switchs maddux from 4 to blank, and he might never come out. not a big problem with him, but a killer with lesser starters left in indefinetly. until I see it was changed without me changing it. ive had it happen, frequently, until I figured out what it was doing to me.
