1969 single team theme league - drafting

Hey, I wandered over here from 70's land for a friendly game of strat. I chose one of my favorite childhood teams knowing they were terrible. I did this once in a 70's league with the first pick in the draft. Maybe I'm nuts, but it's my $24.95. Let's play ball. No changes in the draft.

If I finish with the worst record I'll buy lunch!

Seriously guys, your flaming a manager who has started dozens of theme leagues with great premises and does a great job as a commish in them, Paul even funds prizes for the winners out of his own pocket in some of them.

It's OK to disagree with a draft decision, but some of these posts...really?

Paul, I would bail and let them find a replacement. But this is why he is a quality manager and terrific league participant, he won't bail even after these posts.

Nobody is flaming Paul, that is off base. The comment about him being a "new guy" was off base too, obviously. Just look at his trophy case to confirm that!

I have played in his leagues and have the utmost respect for him.

And for the record, I like Rico Carty too. He threw me a ball at Met Stadium in about 1975, when he was with the Tribe. Back when you had to really work to get a ball. Especially when they were Calvin Griffith's balls. :lol:

Thank goodness I'm not viewed as "flaming". I try to stay below the radar actually.

And I would never ever trade or drop Nate Colbert! He is the face of the 1969-74 Padres. When Terry Cashman was writing the various team versions of "Talking Baseball" back in the 70's someone said that the only real legacy the Pads had was Nate Colbert washing his car in the outfield prior to a game. I like that!

LOL - I picked this up from latorrer - I thought it was hip new jargon - maybe he meant blaming? This is how new slang is developed and trends are set!

I just read that Colbert played on nine consecutive last-place teams, from 1968–1976. Kind of makes you see why washing the car in the outfield might have been more important that the coming game... Also was reminded of Colbert's 5HR/13RBI double header on August 1, 1972. What a day!

I think the best idea is to delay trades until the league games start. That way Wooten will see what he has to work with from the draft. I'm only in the draft for 1-3 picks. He will have a number of uncontested picks late. I also think the Cap number should follow the player traded to the next team, which makes a lot more sense.

I also think the Commissioner has to default to the fairness of the league at all times, or leagues break apart. Protect the new guys as they learn the league. If somebody comes in and loses 120 games, are they going to come back for a 2nd league with us?

Comissioner you do what you think is fair. You are too good to want anything but an even playing field. i truly believe you have to take a step back and see the trade is lopsided. I may be still too new to be the voice of fairness. Less fun if we are fighting an uphill battle before the league even starts. Sorry if anybody thinks my comments are out of line. At 24.95 we are not in it for the money. RJ
